This meet will be held at Arkansas next week. Tommy Manning said that he thought the DMR time should hold up, so they are excited to run there. Tommy should also be running the 800m. Matt Debole will probably run the 3000m. I am not sure of Dan Nunn and Fleet Hower in the 5000m. We should be seeing this week who is actually running.

The declaration lists will be posted a little bit later today. From the descending lists the following is a likely scenario:
Women: Maggie Infeld, 1 mile (16th best in the nation; Elizabeth Maloy is on the list, but probably too far down; Nana Hanson-Hall is on the list for the 800m, but again too far down the list) DMR (12th and 13th best times, but Stanford has two ahead of us, so we are the 11th best school)
Men: Tommy Manning, 800m (12th in the nation; Chris Bonner is now on the list at 22; Tommy is also 36th in the nation in the mile) Matt Debole, 3000m (14th in the nation; Rod Koborsi is 26th) DMR, 10th in the nation (5000m with Dan Nunn at 26 and Fleet Hower at 28; Dan said he probably would not make it).

Nevada, where did you get the info from the team members? Also I wonder if the 5k guys regret that they didn't run in one of the last chance meets with a fast track to improve their times for the NCAA meet. Also was there any mention of whether Natasha LaBeaud's prov time will hold up?

The declaration list is out. As predicted, for the women Maggie was 14th on the list and they took 17, and the women's DMR was one of the 12 teams taken (with the 11th fastest time). For the men 15 men were taken in the 800m and Tommy has the 10th fastest time. Matt Debole was also picked as one of the 15 (having the 14th fastest time). The men's DMR team is going as 12 were taken (Hoyas have 10th fastest).
In the women's 5000m 17 were taken and Natasha had the 25th fastest, so no freshmen are in the field.

Here is the line for the women's DMR:
Event 26 Women Distance Medley =============================================================================== Final only. Two waterfall start, two turn stagger. It would seem that Kandance Ferguson should run the 400m, instead of Ashley Hubbard and that Nana Hanson-Hall should run for Meghan O'Neil. Now this may be the quartet that recorded that time and not the exact lineup.

Villanova has the fastest time coming in for the men's DMR, but I don't think they will win. With Chris Lukezic running anchor for the Hoyas, they would have a chance.

Tommy did not run well in the prelims this afternoon, which leads me to believe that he either fell or was sick. The results:

This just in: Tommy was cut off pretty bad in the race by Koech, the freshman from UTEP. The Hoyas have filed protest, and we'll see what results from that.

disappointing results so far but maybe the team is really focusing on the DMR. It seems that the top runners are not really peaking for the NCAA's, they have run a lot in recent weeks. Lets hope that they can turn things around in the DMR.

Women finished in 13th(last place) and were not competitive. Not sure what happened to them. Two of their top runners,i.e. Infeld and Ferguson did not run, but there is no way that accounts for their placing--I assume that there must have been fall, dropped baton, sick runner or something.

I think the men were concentrating on the DMR. I think that was a great performance considering we do not have a pure miler, as Koborsi, more a 5-10K man did anchor duties.

I don't know about the protest to get Tommy into the final. This might have been his last race as a Hoya.
With their 4th in the DMR the Hoyas are in 20th place with one (for them) event to go (Debole in the 3000m).

Debole came in 13th at the 3K in 8:20. Certainly he would have been disappointed in the time/placing--may have been tough to run the 3k after the strong dmr the night before.

Debole came in 13th at the 3K in 8:20. Certainly he would have been disappointed in the time/placing--may have been tough to run the 3k after the strong dmr the night before. That should have not affected him so much. The woman runner from Northern Arizona won the women's mile and 70 minutes later, she comes back to win the 3000m. Matt ran 1200m on the DMR, so he should have been ok. The times were slow - his qualifying time would have won the race by about three seconds. Actually a fast 1200m should have made him ready for the "slow" 3000m. The men's mile run was really slow too. The most egregious happening of the meet was in the 800m men's final, where they let Koech, who DNF'ed in the heats, into the finals. He was the one, who cut in badly on Tommy Manning. I have to find out what the story is.

This is an email from Coach Henner to the track and field team regarding Tommy Manning's 800m prelim:
"Tommy ran a perfect race and then was cut off and fouled by the UTEP runner with 150 to go and got knocked down. The officials do not lok at tape but just saw Tommy falling into the UTEP guy who fouled him and reinstated the other guy. We protested but just like in bball the official always sees what happens second."
