The next indoor meet is the Father Diamond meet this Saturday, Jan. 7. Track and Field News has announced its ratings for 2005 in each track and field event. Among the present and former Hoyas listed were Treniere Clement, who was ranked #1 in the 1500m for American women for the year and #3 in the 800m, Chris Lukezic (still a student, but not competing for GU), who ranked #4 in the US in the 1500, Rod Koborsi (still has some eligibility left), who ranked #10 in the US in the 10,000m, Sasha Spencer, who was #7 in the US in the 800m, and Julian (Reynolds) Clay, ranked #6 in the 400m in the US. In addition, Jesse O'Connell, who ran sparingly (probably an injury) had the 7th fastest 1000m in the US and Tommy Manning the 10th fastest 1000m in the US.

The women had many entries in the Father Diamond meet at George Mason. The performances:
60m 7. Kandance Ferguson 7.85 (did not qualify for finals)
200m 2. K. Ferguson 25.57 9. Claire Buckley 27.52
400m 1. Nichole Torpey 1:00.09 3. Charlena Tillett 1:0074 7. Buky Bamigboge 1:01.79
500m 1. Nana Hanson-Hall 1:14.55 4. Meghan O'Neil 1:17.38 5. Jayne Penn 1:18.37
1 Mile 1. Lise Ogrodnick 5:01.18 2. Joanne Rodgers 5:07.19 3. Sabine Knothe 5:16.7
800m 1. Ashley Hubbard 2:18.47
1000m 1. Avril Ogrodnick 2:52.85 2. Erin Henry 2:57.44
60H 3. Buky Bamigboge 9.08 q 3. ditto 9.53 final
4x400 1. GU "A" 3:50.52 3. GU "B" 3:58.62
HJ 3. Buky B. 1.60m 5. Claire Buckley 1.45m LJ 2. Buky B. 5.56m 5. Ashley Mondie 5.35m 10. Alex Baptiste 5.03
TJ 2. Ashley Mondie 12.21m 5. Alex Baptiste 10.77m
A couple of comments. Buky Bamigboge was a busy frosh with four events and some good marks. The Ogrodnicks had a disappointing XC season, but they both started their indoor careers with wins in decent times. More than the times were their margins of victory - 6 seconds in the mile by Lise and 5 seconds in the 1000m by Avril.

The men were busy too, although they held out some of the better middle distance and distance runners.
60m 2. Kenny Mitchell 6.94 q 7. Jared Jenkins 7.15 8. Jon Okon 7.25
60m final 1. Kenny Mitchell 6.89
200m 5. Terrell Gissendanner 23.93

1M 1. Justin Scheid 4:24.51
1000m 1. Ricky Barrios 2:35.50
3000m 1. Shane Young 8:27.25 2. Rasheed Thompson 8:56.54 DNF Justin Scheid
60H 7. Terrell G. 8.72
4x400 1. GU 3:21.81 LJ 2. Terrell G. 6.65m 5. Jon Okon 6.45m
TJ 2. Terrell G. 14.2m 4. Jon Okon 13.35
Comments on the men. It looks as if we have a sprinting star in footballer Kenny Mitchell. Terrell matched Buky participating in four events. A decent 3000m by Shane Young, who was not even on the first seven in XC; he beat Rasheed (who was usually one of the first seven) by 29 seconds.

Missed these two marks in the men's 1000m, since these two were running unattached. I caught their mile times, but missed their 1000m marks.

I thought Rod had indoor and outdoor, but I may be wrong. Don't know at all about Bumby. He seems to be healthy, so I would think they would run him for the outdoors season. I haven't seen Fleet's name in the results in the indoor season, so maybe he will take an indoor redshirt.

I just listed the first 30 from the 3000m and first 5 from the 5000m. Matt Debole under 8 min for the 3000 and Bumbi in his first race for GU (?) just misses 8 min (The U next to his affiliation might mean unattached and he is still redshirting). Great results for them. Same for the 5000m guys. Must be a PR for Dan Nunn and a very good opener for Fleet. In fact, both of them beat the Big East XC champ Fagin. Things are looking good for the distance crew.

For the 3000m the winner was Steve Slattery, who went to the University of Colorado, was ranked 3rd in the US in the 3000m Steeplechase and participated in the World Championships in Helsinki. I don't know who Morgan is, but Debole's time is just off the automatic qualifier for the NCAAs (7:55); as it is he has a provisional qualifier. Bumbi's 8:01 is a great time for a freshman. Equivalent to about a 8:40 two mile, which is about 7-8 seconds faster than he ran as a HS student. Anything under 14 minutes for the 5000m indoors is a very good time. As I mentioned Fagin was the Big East XC champion and Nunn and Hower beat him. Nunn bettered his outdoor time by about 15 seconds. Both 5000m times were NCAA provisional marks.
