Nevada, apparently she ran a 2:10 as a junior but has not replicated that as a senior. 2:10 hs time is a top level(or near so) recruit, 2:13 is more of a mid level--hopefully she will return to earlier form.

Saw that two Canadian sisters will run for GU next year:
Results from Loucks games, White Plains, NY Canadians Avril Ogrodnick 10:38.83 and Lise Ogrodnick 10:45.66 were 1-2 in a stellar 3200m, with five more girls under 11 minutes, including Bay Shore sr Laura Cummings 10:46.80 and Old Town ME jr Cassie Hintz 10:46.98. The Ogrodnick sisters will run for Georgetown next year.

Looks like the recruits have posted some very fast times, unfortunately almost all of them seemed to have gone faster as juniors than seniors

Great! She would be able to qualify for the NCAA regionals in NY this year with that time. ;D

I have been gone a week so I did not have any updates. I will post in another subject about the NCAA Regionals. I was up in Folsom, just east of Sacramento, moving my son up to his job with Intel. Intel is right across the street from Folsom HS, where GU recruit, Natasha LeBeaud goes to school. She ran in the Masters meet on Saturday and qualified for the California state meet with a second place finish in the 3200m with a time of 10:50.xx Folsom has miles and miles of bike/running/walking trails, so I probably ran on the same trails where Natasha does her workouts.
Also, Sacramento is the site of the NCAA track and field meet June 8-11. I thought we would be up visiting my son AND attending the meet. Unfortunately, a family emergency brings up back to Virginia those exact days. Any west coast Hoyas (Nothern Calif. variety) should try to see Rod Koborsi, Chris Lukezic, and Maggie Infeld compete.

Great news about another Hoya recruit, Andrew Bumbalough (aka Bumbi). He tripled at the Tennessee state meet running the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m all in one day and winning all three, including a nation's leading 1600m.
TN -- Tennessee State Meet - Brentwood Academy sr Andrew Bumbalough's same day triple includes 4:05.75 1600m, fastest in the US this season. He wrapped a 9:32.59 3200m and a 1:53.99 800m around his big 1600m race.

Great showing(news) by Bumbi--N. La beaud's times as a junior were 30 seconds faster--maybe she is/was injured, hopefully not a trend.

Natasha is slowly improving her times. She won the 3200m in her division at 10:59, then ran 10:50 in the Masters meet. She probably has two races left, the state meet and the Golden West meet (at her home HS track), so she definitely has more in her.

you know its amazing .. at gu we get great recruits.. and no resources.... like no track for instance ..and great recruits... it amazes me that the coaches and team are so family oriented that they can pull this off.. and have nationallly ranked teams.. gives us reason to donate to help these athletes.. and coaches ..and another reason to be proud to be a hoya.. hopefully the redone track space a t the high school across from gu will get the track team off the buses going around the metro area to pracitce.. go hoyas ... you do unbelievable things ...

Fortunately, our academics is still a big draw, plus our tradition in the middle distances. These hard working students deserve better facilities. I guess it is easier said than done.

Academics and tradition help, but the same discussion is going on at the Villanova board who, despite their great track tradition, is moving down the ladder as well.
A track team is not just middle distance runners anymore--too many other schools can put together an entire package of runners to make up the difference, and provide the scholarship support to make it happen.

A lot of the top track and field schools these days are the big state schools (and Stanford). Trying to compete against those schools for the recruits and the talent across the board has to be self defeating. GU has always gone the XC and middle distance way. They tried to field a more rounded team in the 80's and 90's, but with our lack of facilities, what is the recourse. I think it is like a comparison of fielding a basketball team verses a football team. The smaller schools could not compete with the state schools in football, because all of the scholarships and facilities, but could do very well in bball. XC dictates that you have five to seven good middle/long distance runners. You get an extra bang for your buck, when these same runners are doing the 800, 1500, 5000, and 10000 (Rod Koborsi is probably the first Hoya in a while to have a chance to place in the NCAAs in the 10000m). Since we all know the status of GU's economic problems, I think this pattern will continue to exist.

Christine Whalen, recruit in the middle distances, just missed making the finals in the California state 800m. This adds to her disappointment last year. She finished 2nd in her heat, but only the heat winners and the top five other times advanced. She had the sixth fastest time other than the heat winners: 2:13.23.
Bumbi runs a 1-mile race tonight in Tenn. Speculation is that he will run between 4:02 and 4:05.

Since we all know the status of GU's economic problems, I think this pattern will continue to exist. I would disagree with this only because those sports which have grown in the last 15 years (rowing, football, lacrosse) have done so with alumni support in addition to what the University could provide. Like basketball, track has lagged in alumni donors and that's a reflection of untapped potential. If the track alumni (and there are more track alumni each year than any sports outside football and rowing) made it a priority to fund scholarships, to push hard for the track/soccer facility (which was proposed 8 years ago) and to help get the program back on top, things would change. Success in athletics is not tied to the endowment or the medical center. If the alumni get behind a sport, things get done.

I checked the Cal state track results --Natasha Labeaud finished fifth in 10:45--Nevada as you say she keeps improving, though she ran a 10.24 last yr which was probably the nations best time. Will be interesting to see if she keeps improving at Golden west. Also the Canadian recruits at 3200 that we have already have gone into the low 10:30's-10:20's this yr.
The winner of the 800m at Cal btw is a Duke recruit!
This comment may deserve a separate thread, but I was wondering the other day why we don't put a track on the outside of the football field for the MSF, it may not be ideal, but it would be better than nothing and would actually provide a venue for watching some high level T&F.
