I just started to read the many comments about the coaching staff, play calling and overall disappointment with the program. Your passion for the program is admirable. I have attended every game this season. I want to share my observations with you. Georgetown just like Duke is a basketball school. Lets be honest with ourselves. When the decision was made to join the Patriot League, did anyone in the Athletic Administration have any long term planning in place to become a competitive program in the league? The seniors on the team were told 5 years ago that a stadium would be built. You can complain about coaches, play calling and the overall all commitment to the program by the administration. The bottom line is that it's all about $$$$$. The half built stadium is a joke. The football athletic facilities are a joke. Every team in the Patriot League has better facilities than Georgetown. Go ahead and fire the coach and his staff. Coaching is only one part of the issue with the football program. Georgetown football fans must be honest with themselves. Losing stinks but the reality is that the program is an after thought when competing with the likes of the Patriot and Ivy league teams. College football is one of the greatest amateur sports left that brings together students and alumni. Most of the kids playing in Division 1 programs will never go professional. These kids at Georgetown are working their butts off. The coaching staff is struggling to find a spark but I don't question their efforts(even if 6am practices are not the norm). What you Georgetown football fans and alumni should be doing is searching your directory of graduates to find someone generous enough to have a stadium named after him or her!!! A first class state of the art football stadium is the trademark of any successful or competitive program. This should be a priority and everything else will fall into place! So I challenge anyone who reads this to come up with a fund raising effort or an endowment that will allow the completion of the stadium. Didn't Bill Clinton go to Georgetown? He likes football! Who can make the call??? Clinton Stadium-- sounds good to me!

Great post, bceagle.
I'm happy to start small, which is, frankly, all my finances will currently allow. Here's my suggestion; on top of the annual donation that I've already made this year, if the Hoyas win this weekend vs. Marist, if FIVE others will join me, I will pledge to donate $100 to the football program with a letter to the athletic department requesting that the donation goes toward completing the MSF. I can't afford $1,000, but I'd suggest that if you can, you pledge to donate $1,000, $10,000, or more toward the MSF if the team beats Marist this Saturday.
I'll do it if five others will post on here that they agree join me (although more than 5 are certainly welcome). DFW, nycalumn, derhoya, formerhoya, russkyhoya are you in? I'm calling everyone out that posts here. Who's in?

98hoya, great idea. I'm in for $ 1,000., win or lose.
Please allocate my donation, $ 500 to the Gridiron Club toward football operating expenses, and $ 500 toward MSF.
I'd be pleased to call Mr. Clinton, anyone have his number. He may be spending some time in Washington over the next 8 years, probably looking for something to do.

i know a girl who was in my class who works for him in his organization, ill put the word out we are seeking his 'attention' - Willy J. Clinton Coliseum sounds good to me.
ill throw down a $100 for the stadium. if i remember correctly, couldn't you buy the naming rights to the locker room, offices, seats, etc. during the previous fundraising effort? the prices were like 1mil-1grand in scale (1000 for a seat i think!). to bad, due to my limited funds, i guess i could afford the soap dispenser in the bathroom to be named after me or something..... or i'd definitely throw down a couple grand in the future to a washing machine that doesn't catch fire and burn my stuff! it happened to be twice during my tenure on the team! what luck...

I like your thinking derhoya. Do you think if I write a nice letter with my donation they'll agree to put a brass plaque with my name on it over one of the MSF men's room urinals?
Come on guys, 3 more people at a minimum!
DFW, any chance of posting something about this challenge on the hoyasaxa.com page?

My hat is off to you guys. You are great fans and patrons of your university and your team. You've taken a potentially negative previous thread and turned it into a positive. I truly believe that you will all be successful by whatever measure you use to define success.

Thanks for the kudos, njhoya. How about joining us?
Realizing that $100 is too much for some fans (particularly students - i remember those days), how about pledging a $25 or $10 donation if the hoyas win this weekend? Come on guys, 200+ have read this thread and so far there are only three of us who will shell out. It's even tax deductible and will count toward the "alumni giving" statistics that are so important to the US News calculation.

BCEAGLE IS RIGHT, IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. COME ON GUYS. 245 PEOPLE HAVE READ THIS THREAD, ONLY 3 HAVE COMMITTED. IF EVERYONE GAVE $ 100., THAT'S $ 24,500. I COMMITTED $ 1,000.
LET'S SHOW MUIR AND KELLY HOW MUCH WE CARE AND WANT SUCCESS. WOULDN'T IT BE NICE TO PRESENT A CHECK FOR $ 50,000. ON SENIOR DAY TO DEMONSTRATE OUR SUPPORT FOR THE PROGRAM.

I hate to bust anyone's bubble, but the problem isn't just financial. Georgetown has been in the Patriot League for a few years, and the bottom appeared to drop out this year. The Hoyas have become even less competitive than they were in the past. Facilities probably play a part, but getting shucked by everybody seems more than that. An improved MSF won't guarantee a win over Fordham or Cornell. Until there seems to be potential for improvement, I'd consider any contribution little better than throwing my money away.

Exorcist,
I agree that having a completed MSF won't solve the problem on its own (see my 20+ posts to this effect). However, having a real stadium will be a major step to (a) helping recruiting and (b) creating a better atmosphere for gameday. It follows that more fan support and better players will improve the program. I don't in any way suggest that it's "the fix" to throw money into the MSF, however, I think it's a step in the right direction. Come on, you've got to be good for a few bucks - shell'em out.

I'll join in for $100, provided I can donate directly on the GU website. I tried to a month or so ago, but couldn't bring the MSF up as a donee.

Great! Welcome aboard, Socal. We need at least TWO MORE.
Does anyone have a connection to the university so we can have them get a working link posted up for donations? No doubt, mailing a check would work, but SoCal raises a good point that it'd be much simpler to be able to donate through the website.

Yea, I really wish I had $100 to spend. Maybe once I get that first real job... I can give $20, though.

I'm in for $100, happy to spend towards the future of the program as I think that a stadium is going to be the cornerstone of success. Recruits = Wins = Fans = Increased Funding!!!

I hate to be the guy that says "You newbies don't understand," but the fact is that we've tried this before. If I recall correctly, there was some reason, real or B.S., I don't know, that we couldn't do this.
If anyone makes progress where I can donate directly to the MSF, then I'm in for $500.

As class of '07, my donations are pretty limited (I'm still poor). But when someone donates like this, how do you really know that your donations go to what you want? What's the process for requesting that your money is directly applied to your desired project? I was under the impression that the University doesn't allow such targeting in a lot of cases.

look, be really careful donating to the current mess at GU ,trust me, ive been donating and it gets you nowhere , no info , nothing ,just alot of bull from people who have never donated anything and likely will never donate , thats the facts boys and thats why msf is in the current state that it is ....we dont have a useful scoreboard....till we get a real football staff and get rid of the bozos and apparently embarassing recruiting methods ,the money you give will be wasted ....i know thats a bit of an ugly circle but giving money to these idiots has made no sense up to now and there is no reason to believe it will improve and i am ready to donate , but, i will no longer donate to the crap that gu has produced....so you know, we can be behind 35-0 or so at half forever if you keep donating and permitting this to continue ..WTF ...this has gotten crazy , somebody recently wrote that we should be quiet in ths board ....sssshhh !!! , maybe we are negatively effecting the intelligent recruiting methods at gu ...cmon everybody knows we suck everybody knows the facilities are embarassing and the coac hes are awful , just ask...what are we going to do be quiet , lie and trick some unsuspecting scrub from outside the northeast to come to gu ....the northeastern part of the usa knows we n eed huge change so lets not be quiet , lets speak up and force change and not allow our lousy coaches to hide behind bringing in scrubs from other areas around the country , we should be a bigger factor in recruiting in our backyard which is also the area where are funding comes from too...also some jerk is writing about addressing our radio problems , he said he is going to write something tomorrow , wednesday , we have 2 games left , marist and colgate , its too late too write this crapp , obviously , this gu geeek hasnt been trying to log into the radio all season , i will bet a donation to the football experience on that ...we dont need this geeeks analysis , trust me , the radio doesnt work and it has never worked, there is the anaysis IT DOES NOT WORK , we listren /watrch on our oppositions network ...clearly this fooll hasnt tried to listen to a game otherwise he wouldnt think its worth an article ...its not ....FIX IT , stop writing complete nonsense ...so the facilities are bad , the coaches are bad , the players are forced awake at 5 am to practice , those are the facts ...people , these are the facts of football at gu ....so think before you donate to the current condition of gu football !!!
