Has there ever been a better player name? I can't think of many that come close.

Dude that is so weird. They were just talking about Exree Hipp on Hoya Hoops. Maybe all Georgetown minds think alike. Or we're all the same people on all the different sites.

I was always partial to former Northern Kentucky U. player Shaft Stevenson, named because his father liked the Richard Roundtree movie.

I know people who love georgetown basketball, but also love notre dame football, and love USC football etc., and i take exception to this because I also still root for my hometown basketball team, with georgetown being my number one. I say this, but everytime i root for my hometown bball team people give me crap, but yet they can go and root for another schools football team. On the whole though i actually see their point of view and think it is legitimate because I am very much of the opinion that if you can switch allegiances to the school that you attend so quickly then you are simply not a big sports fan because it is impossible to cut those ties so quickly or so severely. Those that can were only fans of sports when they came to college and were probably casual fans beforehand.

I grew up a Hoya fan, both my parents worked at the school, my dad graduated from the school and we got to go to some games in the 80s. I saw Zo, and Deke etc...(I was too young to see Ewing) But becasue i grew up in the area (Va) and went to high school in the district with kids from MD, DC, and Va I had a slight affinity for GW, and MD. I only followed G town but I was pleased when the other schools b ball programs were on the up and up.
HOWEVER - I can honestly say that when I got to G town as a freshman I quickly became a bigger G town b ball fan. (its hard to stay close to the team when they are never on TV and tickets were expensive) When this happened I immediately started to hate MD and GW. Not only do they compete in our recruiting back yard they also eat up our coverage in the post, and tv news.
Now when Mason came along I'll be honest i was happy for them. They aren't really on the same level as us and I think if we played them we would mop the floor with them. (I think we'd mop the floor with MD and GW too but for some reason the media thinks those schools are final four teams every other year.
lastly, I've always hated the GU thing at games. It looks too much like GW. Not to mention how often do you hear people talk about georgetown university. I feel like its always Georgetown. Maybe we are just so popular that we only need one name, like Madonna, or Batman.
I like the G town thing that ESPN does, GU works I suppose for the traditionalists, but GT... that is idiotic.

1. Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean Jacque Wamutombo
2. We might be the only team that stands between UM and and 0 in the L column, but other teams might have a shot a season full of intangibles leads toward unprojected results. I predict that UM finishes with 1-3 losses (one of them coming in less than 48 hours!!).
3. I love how this board always reverts to "who's the bigger fan" and "who can be a fan of what" debates. I think they call that "norming." Here's my dip in the pool: because of my parents' alma maters (also, one a neo-con evangenlical wall street exec and the other an eco-liberal CA school teacher) I root for USC in football and UCLA in basketball -- how's that for perverse!
But of course, I drank the kool-aid the day I stepped foot on the Hilltop (seriously, the Orchestra House used to make it. Mmmm mmm good). I root for Gtown over everyone all the time. If USC was playing Gtown in football, I'd be decked out in Blue&Gray; scoreboard be damned! If UCLA was playing Gtown, I'd be decked out in Blue&Gray.
Of course, on Saturday when we play a school that has blue&gray as their colors too, I'll be wearing WAG.
4. Georgia can be UG, WG can be GW, Georgia Tech can have GT. We should just be "G". That would be badass. Just a big, capital G

i grew up a hoya fan (my dad is a GU grad and a season ticket holder since before I was born), but graduated from Kansas. My new order is KU, then Hoyas. I don't know what I would have done if I went to a school like Marquette. I think I would have to end my Hoya allegance.

...an undefeated regular season? I just realized that Calipari pulled the Coach K Special and plays virtually no road games all season, opting for the ever-popular neutral site in lieu of road games. So after Cincy OOC, they play Gonzaga, Arizona, and the Hoyas at home and that's it. Tough games, sure, but they're all at home. The toughest gym they actually go to is UAB. Wouldn't mind the Hoyas being their only loss heading into the tourney. so far from the truth. When Coach Cal schedules an opponent, he usually at all times goes for a Home and Home contract ... sure our conference is not what it used to be, but i assure you, UAB isn't the only hostile environment in our league. anyways, we played the teams you mentioned at their houses last year, so i think in the home and home format, it would be right if they came into our house right? just so happens everyone comes to our house to play ... anyways, just wanted to bring that up. memphis has a great home winning streak as well going right now, i think one game behind byu ...

Wow. I'm surprised this thread hasn't been locked, having just read through it for the first time.
Memphis will have a few other tough tests OOC, and even though they didn't lose any conf. games last year, they came close a few times playing against a whole bunch of mid-majors who brought their A-game every night.
This year we've scheduled a bit easier earlier on, and where we may have taken some lumps in previous seasons, we've kept winning and reached a high level of play (hopefully we'll be consistent) without sustaining any losses. The Big East is a tremendously strong conference, but two of the teams we play twice are severely depleted by injuries and/or issues, the other team we play twice sucks, and one of the other two BE top-10-caliber teams just lost a key player for the season. Without trying to sound like an arrogant f--- or jinx the Hoyas out of the NIT, I'll ask if Memphis is the only thing standing between us and an undefeated regular season. Are they?
