...an undefeated regular season?
I just realized that Calipari pulled the Coach K Special and plays virtually no road games all season, opting for the ever-popular neutral site in lieu of road games.
So after Cincy OOC, they play Gonzaga, Arizona, and the Hoyas at home and that's it. Tough games, sure, but they're all at home. The toughest gym they actually go to is UAB.
Wouldn't mind the Hoyas being their only loss heading into the tourney.

Don't forget UT- GU is still probably their toughest opponent, but that game will be huge if they are still unbeaten in February. |

You forgot tennessee who they also play at home. but yes we are the greatest challenge to their undefeated season, but gonzaga, arizona, and tennessee will test them as well.

Plus I'm not so sure what type of home court advantage the cavernous subdued-alum filled fedex arena provides really. Certainly not say a Cameron. Hopefully we can beat them and be their only loss but i think thats getting ahead of ourselves in a couple ways.

I think you are off about the arena- Verizon Center can be a great homecourt even when it is only 2/3 home fans, and Memphis is supposedly the hottest ticket in town, much moreso than the Grizzlies, for example. |

Verizon for Duke didn't do too badly. And Memphis had no pro teams until the Griz moved there. That's allowed the U to develop a relationship with the city and a hardcore fan passion that gets split in many other places. |

I have no doubt that Memphis will be rocking on Saturday, and I hope they go undefeated throughout the regular season with the exception of this game

I know they play in C-USA but, still, doesn't that seem to indicate at the very least that they have some sort of home advantage? I wouldn't underrate the 'Home Game' factor... |

they didn't lose a single home game last year and only lost one the year before to texas. the year before that they lost like 7 home games though back when the lousiville's and cinci's were back in CUSA. It's mostly been do to competition. outside on a win over gonzaga 2 years ago they haven't beaten a quality team at home. they have at neutral sites, but not at home. it's mostly due to schedule.

The stormin mormons out here at BYU have the 1st or 2nd longest home wining streak. 37 straight I believe. |

thats all because they are a good team in a horrible conference not because of their pro arena. most their home games are CUSA opponents which are ALL fairly easy wins (believe me im also a bearcat fan i know cusa) and sometimes they have a tough OOC home game or two like us saturday but typically teams dont sign up to travel to memphis so often they find themself either on netural sites or on the road against tough teams in their killer OOC. Get the OOC cupcakes at home obviously though.

haha hoya first bearcat 2nd... and its not really that much of an issue since Nancy Zimpher screwed over the program for many years to come. Also its not like they are traditional rivals. I still feel like there is a rift between the CUSA converts (marquette, lville,uc) and the Core Big East Teams ( Cuse, Uconn, GT).

Yeah, Im sure I'll get the "I grew up with them as my team" argument and so on. But if the school means so much to you, you should have just gone there. It's not like UC is some huge state school that everyone has a cultural identity with simply because its such a big part of growing up in the state. What, are you also an Ohio State fan in football?

I still feel like there is a rift between the CUSA converts (marquette, lville,uc) and the Core Big East Teams ( Cuse, Uconn, GT). Or lack of a rift really. I'm from cincinnati and I have a hard time getting that excited for the GU/UC game. In general, the CUSA converts are the other Big East teams I most enjoy seeing succeed, because I haven't learned to hate them enough yet. |

I'll let afalcon answer to this, but I think it is preposterous to argue that if he really liked the UC athletic teams, he should have just gone there. He would crazy to pass up Georgetown academics for a chance to root for UC athletics. |

If you decided to attend another school that has a major basketball program I would think that you should be a fan of that school.
I don't expect people to hate teams they grew up cheering for. I mean, if you see them on tv playing against some random team its completely natural to pull for them. But the team 1A and team 1B thing doesnt work for me, especially when they are so likely to be playing each other often. What happens when they play? Well, I'm rooting for my #1 team, but if they happen to lose at least my #2 team will benefit from it, so Im not that upset. I feel like extreme devotion is necessary in sports, you have to go all in when you're supporting your favorite team and can't leave any doubt of who you are rooting for. When you have two teams, no matter how much you are rooting for your top team, feelings for that other team are in there somewhere dividing your allegiance to a certain extent, no matter how minor it is.
Call me crazy, but thats just one man's opinion.

I attend a liberal arts college, and there is no major basketball program, its D3. But I certainly dont see why if I had decided to go to my state school of Rutgers, as I nearly did for financial reasons, that should preclude me from enjoying the return to glory of a program that I had rooted for when it was in dire straits. I'd say that myself, and many others who didn't attend Georgetown have invested far more into the program then the vast majority of current students and alumni. But to each his own I guess.
