Posted by easyed on Today at 1:04pm Guess we miss out on him. Sure wish Georgetown was a Jesuit institution because we could use him.
Cant argue with you there. Stories I hear from old-timers of Jesuit schools about the drinking habits of students and Jesuits alike, and shenanigans from back in the day that are now frowned upon at Georgetown...

I think we need to make it a yearly ritual to grab Coach K's top recruiting target. Well 2 down, 08 and 09(Monroe, Hollis). I doubt GU and dook go head to head in the 2010 class. dook wants Thornton, but they are also recruiting Brandon Kingh. Hoyas fear the Wojo like Hoyas fear the Turtle.

From the little I know about Lance, it would seem he's the kind of player that if he picks you're program, you make room to have him no matter what. Am I misguided there? yeah, Lance is the type of player that a team will find a spot for. UNC is one of the schools he likes, along with Gtown, L'ville, Mempshis, Indiana... I have no problem if a kid wants to go down to UNC and play for coach Roy. I think that UNC is going to take Strickland and Cheeks at the guard spots for 09 though, so I doubt they take Lance also. But Lance's recruiting will be a long process anyway. I doubt he makes a decision until next season. He will be taking an unofficial to GU and UNC during the season.

I have to say, I'm a little hesitant about Lance though. I've read some articles about him that suggest he has a bit of an attitude problem. And from the two times I've seen him play on TV, I can't say that its all unjustified.

It is a fair assessment that he plays with a bit of an attitude. But he has never had any off court issues, so that chip on his shoulder when he is playing is not to big of a deal. I will let III make the decision as to whether Lance's temperament will be a good fit. In terms of Lance's playing style, he is actually a pass first player and tough defender. So his skills sets are a perfect fit for the system.

I think Reke gets a bad rap. Yeah he's a gunner, but recognizes that and is attempting to become more team oriented.

Lance would be amazing. Hollis, Armwood, Riley and Lance is pretty much the ideal class and I can't imagine it'd be lower than #1 in the country. It'd have everything you want--crazy athlete combo forward (Armwood), ultra-skilled swing (Hollis), big man with an extremely high ceiling (Riley), and complete superstar (Stephenson). I know Lance grew up liking UNC, but as someone else mentioned I doubt that both he and Dom Cheek go to UNC in the same class. He has also been showing Indiana some love lately, but who knows with them, Sampson may keep getting in trouble.
Lance is pretty much the only thing out there right now, IMO, that could top Greg Monroe. And he would, IMO, be a bigger get than Monroe.

I agree with most things you say RB, but NO way Lance is a bigger get than Monroe. I like Lance, but Lance is a luxury. Monroe is a franchise player(program builder).

Agree balla. GM is the top ranked player in the class. He is the equivilent of the Knicks getting the #1 pick in the lottery in '85.

Monroe is amazing, but #1 in what most consider to be a weak recruiting class, almost #1 by default in a sense. Lance is pretty much universally top 5 in a stronger recruiting class. I might be NYC metro area-biased, but Lance is the king of New York, leading his team to city championship as a freshman. He is a HUGE deal in NYC.
If you land Lance Stephenson, you don't just get a star player. You get thousands upon thousands of new fans watching you. You get tons of New York City kids who want to follow in his foot steps and be a Hoya. You get a guy who is going to be an NBA star and bring tons of attention to the program for several years.
Monroe will play in the NBA and be excellent. But Lance is a superstar. He is the next big thing.

To clarify, I'm not trying to take anything away from Monroe at all, he is #1 and has earned it. But Lance is a consensus top 5 in '09 which is probably a stronger class, and has some things going for him that Greg does not, IMO.

I bet Monroe is a better NBA player than Lance. I put Monroe higher because he's higher ... er ...taller. Guards are much easier to find than 6'10" skilled big men.
That said, Lance is incredibly skilled.

Isn't Lance Stephenson the kid who is trying to make a reality show about himself? If so I'm not sure he the typical hoya player.

With surely some talented players from previous classes still hanging around when these four show up (hypothetically speaking) it would be an even tighter squeeze for playing time. May need to kick out one five-star and replace him with a three-star. ;D

Monroe would be top 5 in that class too. Depends on your taste. Sidney is considered elite level, yet like detractors say about Monroe, he doesn't bring it on a nightly basis. Guards are a dime a dozen. Skilled, 6'10, lefty bigs with intelligence and high b-ball IQ's, don't come along every day.

lic, recent LATimes article says Hollis has grown from 6'6" to 6'8". So, he needs to eat his spinach and grow just 4 more. Apparently he's leaning to G'town but there's no commitment.

It seems that neither Riley, nor Stephenson are listed on the '09 recruiting board. Could someone place them on there at some point with their rankings? Much appreciated!!

i agree with sleepy...just google searched stephenson and the first hit before scout, rivals, etc was his RIDICULOUS myspace page. he looks like another bassy telfair...drugs and women all over his webpage...i don't know if he is cut from the jon wallace, jeff green, roy, greg mon or hollis mold here...i would just as soon stay away from him
and i don't think getting lance would be a bigger coup for the program than nabbing greg monroe - regardless of strength of the different classes, Greg is almost unanimous no. 1 prep player for 08. just by getting him we are elevating the program another notch in terms of good publicity and cred. also i am pretty sure nyc street player know about georgetown - something tells me getting him wouldn't necessarily open up a lucrative new audience
