Lol yea, who here has that Ovechkin quote as their signature? At least he learned enough English to say that he likes Georgetown and not Maryland.
I have always been pleased with the way most (and I'm not saying all because I know I'll be corrected by some nitpicker) Georgetown athletes speak. From Football in the Fall to Lacrosse in the Spring, all interviews by the on-campus newspapers andand outside media, including television, have been very good. It's not that easy to speak well when you know many other are either going to hear or read your words. People get flustered.

I started thinking a lot about this when the whole John Amaechi thing came out. I wonder how he would have been received as a gay basketball player if he sounded like Allen Iverson and not Hugh Grant.
Still, I don't think it's a white/black thing. Like it or not, most basketball players do not express themselves well. I'm not so much bothered by people pointing out that Jeff is articulate as I am bothered by the fact that many athletes in this country get through without learning the language.

But why do you think that is? To be an athlete on a team you need communication skills. In my mind it makes sense for these guys to be great communicators, succinct, and easy to talk to.
