0 for 2 from the field, 0 points, 0 assists, 2 rebounds in 20 minutes. Meanwhile, he got torched.
Time to have him come off the bench. Enough with the slow starts!

YEs III has to make this move, I like Lubick for what he brings to the table, but we cannot compensate for a starter that plays 20 minutes and doesnt score a single point. JTIII will have to figure it out, this is the 3rd game now that we have played with no focus.

Her was terrible on the defensive today. Nate is becoming big of a liability. He is not threat to score, not rebounding with any consistency, nor is he stopping anyone on the defensive end. Nate has to step it up. In order for Gtown to have any success in the post season we need Nate to step up his game.

People are missing a salient point--Georgetown does not have a power forward that can play Nate's role on interior defense and that can back Sims up inside. If Nate's not getting touches that's partly his fault and partly for the staff scaring him out of taking shots from more than dunk range.
Porter is not an interior four. Whittington also struggles in these sets.
This is related to the situation with Starks. When Starks is in the lineup the offense is more efficient. Trawick is not a good replacement (at last not yet), and neither is Clark. There aren't any good options left when Starks sits, and neither with Lubick, which is why both are out there despite their poor offensive output.
The rotation is down to eight. That's another topic.

I wish Nate were playing better, but I actually think he has played well in the previous 3-4 games - very active, tipping the ball to teammates, fighting for boards, etc. If the minutes stay the same I'm not sure it changes anything for Otto to start.

Otto not being an interior four is 3,000 times better still than what Nate is giving us at full strength. Time for the excuses to stop. Nate doesn't belong in the starting lineup over Otto. We're stealing minutes from Otto, who at this point is by far our second best player

dayton, Nate is not "stealing minutes" from Otto. In fact, Otto has played close to 30 minutes in every Big East game, except against Cincinnati. How much more is he going to play? I don't expect Thompson to throw him out there for 35+ minutes.
Keep in mind a lot of Lubick's minutes are used when Sims is resting and Lubick is essentially the center - those are minutes Porter will never get and should not get. If Moses or Tyler Adams had been healthy, Lubick might have had even less minutes in these games.
Nate / Otto - Minutes Over Big East Games
Pittsburgh: 20 / 30 Rutgers: 23 / 28 DePaul 27 / 35 St. Johns: 11 / 31 Cincinnati: 23 / 16 West Virginia: 15 / 30 Marquette: 12 / 33 Providence: 20 / 33 Louisville: 12 / 32

No, the staff is stealing minutes from Otto....He needs to be on the floor 35 plus at this point. And Lubick right now is essentially worthless.
I don't usually criticize players, but this is getting ridiculous. Nate doesn't deserve to start. Period, simple. He's not doing anything out there to help us win, and he's a major reason that our offense stinks to start games. We're playing 4-5 and EVERYONE knows it. They use Nate's man to clog the middle and it disrupts our entire offense.
Last year, Nate was good. He rebounded. He finished, he was a good passer. I don't know what happened but he's regressed significantly as a player. Last year, Nate was a big east talent. This year, Nate is a CAA talent. He simply doesn't deserve to be on the floor anymore.

And as an aside, when a player who clearly deserves to start is sitting on the bench, "stealing minutes" from said player is the term that coaches use

I was a point guard, at the division I level, if you're trying to use the "never played the game" argument, lol.......Hoops paid for my schooling. Now, I'm a journalist, covering a major division I hoops team.
I'm very, VERY qualified to give my opinion. I know the game

I totally agree - Otto Porter deserves to start. I also think your point about starting the game with our best offensive is also a good one. However, in aggregate, I think it probably evens out. If Lubick is going to come in at some point (and he will), there will be a point where we are 4 on 5 anyway.
I wouldn't mind seeing Otto out there 35+ minutes, I just don't think JTIII will do that. I agree with you on Nate last year, when he was one of my favorite players. I really don't know what happened to him. He clearly has a massive case of lack of confidence.

The biggest issue here is that we don't have anybody who can fill Nate Lubick's shoes, so he's going to play some amount of limited minutes. Hopkins is really the only person who could take the minutes and I'm not sure that would yield a better result. I think if Moses or Tyler had been healthy, Lubick would be on the bench most of the game.
It's sort of like Benimon last year. He played because there was no good alternative, not because JTIII thought he was the answer.
Nate clearly has talent, he showed us that last year. He needs to rediscover that. I'm confident he will do that eventually, but who knows when?

Problem is, we're losing games by playing him starters minutes..this isn't December, when you could afford to tinker with lineups. I would shrink the rotation if it were me. Nate would play however many minutes it took to sub for Henry, and that would be it. Otto would play the 3 and the 4, Hollis the 2 and the 3, Whittington the 3 and Jabril...Nate would play 10 minutes max. Anything more, and we deserve what we get

I agree that we dont have anyone to take Nate's minutes right now but I also think that Otto should start. We need to try something different in BE play. Maybe it might be good for Nate also.We need to start faster on O and its not like Otto is a defensive liability. I would like to see Hopkins get a little more PT.

for those arguing that we have no one to fill nate's shoes....otto does probably everything better than nate, minus perhaps an assist a game. i much rather start a game with a line up of Henry, Otto, Hollis, Jason and Markel....and have Greg, Nate, and Jabril come off the bench. I also want to see Hopkins get more minutes. I like his activity, like his post defense, and think the kid has good upside. If Nate isn't stealing minutes from Otto, he certainly taking a few from Hop.
Bottomline...its time to go with our best five.

He's 50th in the Big East (and this includes Centers, Forwards and guard) in Assist/Turnover ratio at 1.0. statsheet.com/mcb/players/stats/assist_turnover_ratio?conf=big-east&games=1It's amazing how much hate there is for Nate, but as soon as anyone criticizes Markel that's somehow being mean.
