Does Kenpom weight games over the course of a season? i.e: Overtime games in November have less influencer as games in January/Feb in your ranking. My understanding is that that would be no but would love to be wrong on that. November is the same as March.

A rough rule of thumb for understanding movements in Kenpom. Take the anticipated margin for the game - was calculated to be St John's by 9 - and compare to the actual score - Hoyas by 11 - and sum the variance, 9+11=20. Divide this sum by the number of games played, in our case 20, and you get the anticipated change in the adjusted efficiency margin or 20/20=1. If we had "tied the game" - i.e. lost by 9 - our Kenpom adjusted efficiency margin would be +6.5 as opposed to +7.5 and we would be in the 104 range that we were before the St Johns game. Obviously our numbers change when new results are added for the teams that we have already played but this impact is much diminished once you get this late in the season. Also, we don't get quite as much movement in efficiency rate because we play at a faster pace than most teams. I don't think the bold part above is correct. Efficiency is calculated tempo-free. So the tempo doesn't impact in the sense of the calculations. At the most basic level efficiency represents points scored per possession, so tempo doesn't matter. (Obviously, in a macro sense, if you go "too fast" a team might be less efficient, but that's not what is being discussed above.) I don't think I was as clear as I could have been. What I meant to say was that our 20 point swing from the St John's game is over a higher number of possessions than it would be for an average paced team and therefore a 20 point swing for us is not worth quite as much in Kenpom as it would be for a slower paced team.

I am surprised how little a bump we got on our KenPom ranking after beating #55 St. John’s by 11 who KenPom predicted we would lose to by 9. We got a very modest increase. We are currently 94. A rough rule of thumb for understanding movements in Kenpom. Take the anticipated margin for the game - was calculated to be St John's by 9 - and compare to the actual score - Hoyas by 11 - and sum the variance, 9+11=20. St. John's robbed by a bad call at the end of the game... Seton Hall takes advantage to hit a game winner. No question that the call was terrible. Great defensive play by St John's cancelled out by the bad call.

This is my 45th year of Hoya basketball and this is the worst defense I have ever seen us play.
I am horrified.

Is it pronounced “Ah-Coke”?? I believe that the pronunciation is the answer to the question "What do people say when Brett Kavanaugh shows up at a party?"

FYI re TV coverage... Although GUHoyas.com lists the Big Ten Network for this game, the Illinois website, the Fox Sports website, and my Fios guide all have Fox Sports 1 carrying it instead. GUHoyas.com is now listing the game on FS1.

These would be local sports channels such as Fox sports Southwest or Fox sports Detroit. Typically, the games would be broadcast on 4, 5, or more of the local channels. If you have a comprehensive sports package on your cable or satellite network you would have access to these games. Otherwise, you might have a problem.

Guilty as charged. Inexcusable, really. Again, I plead aging synapses....lol Sleepy and Duren in 79-80 was probably our best backcourt. Iverson and Page were exciting, but Page was still a pretty inconsistent player. Sleepy (sophomore) and Duren (senior) were rock solid. Sleepy averaged over 18 a game, and Duren averaged 12 points and 7 assists. Both played very good D. That was a really good team - if we had held on against Iowa in the regional final, we would have had a very good shot at winning the title that year. The Shelton-Duren-Sleepy core of that squad was tremendous. I think you can drop the "probably". Both players went on to be first round draft picks, Duren #19 in 1980 and Sleepy #13 in 1982.

I am completely confused as well.
But that is not necessarily a bad thing.

For those who never got a chance to see Big Sky Shelton play, you can get a sense of his unbelievable quickness off the floor from this video.
Also, the injury to Tom Skates was a big deal. While we were able to beat Syracuse without him to advance to the NCAA, we really missed him against star Rutgers center James Bailey in the NCAA game. Painfully, the East Regional Final Four was Rutgers, Penn (who we had beaten at their place), St John's (who we had beaten at their place) and Syracuse (who we had beaten at a neutral site.)

Interesting stat from NBA Advanced Stats" which explains why Jeff got so much time last year. "After perennially falling short of the high expectations he generated as a high-paid starter throughout his career, Green thrived last season as a role player making the veteran's minimum with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavaliers had a plus-4.1 net rating with Green on the court, per NBA Advanced Stats, and were outscored by 1.6 points per 100 possessions with him on the bench. Green's production in place of the injured Kevin Love during Games 6 and 7 of the Eastern Conference finals were crucial in Cleveland returning to the NBA Finals." www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/23975397/nba-free-agency-rating-latest-moves-deals-contracts

I just do not understand the view that Mac can't catch and shoot like a quality two. Watching him in person before the Iverson game he hit 85% of his 3 point shots which were all essentially three point catch and shoot shots. He made the semis in the three point shooting contest.

Malinowski has already played 3 full seasons at W&M - can't see how he could possibly get more than one more college season Trey has already played in 3 seasons too - but he played only 8 BE minutes total in his frosh and jr. seasons. Maybe they can get some kind of waiver, for another year, although I don't recall any injury limiting his playing time in either of those seasons. So it does not seem likely that either Malinowski or Mourning can play beyond the 18-19 season. I understood it as he meant "this year" as the 2017-2018 school year. That is what I meant.
