As a Worcester Academy alumnus (class of '71) I say welcome. Look forward to seeing you play.

Inviting the players up first was no accident. Ed had clearly done some homework. A masterful performance by someone who seems energized by the task ahead of him. I was struck by how comfortable he seemed at the podium. Before the press conference I was rationalizing the choice of Colley as a safe choice. Now I'm really hoping it's the best choice.

125 people on this morning. Been through this twice before- 2004 and 2017, although neither of those situations seemed as inevitable and as necessary as 2023. Time to hope again.

"the mature ones seem to understand that we can't protect them" That is a quote from a text from my son, a sixth grade language arts/social studies teacher in Philadelphia of whom I had asked how did you talk about Uvalde today. In place of "can't", I would substitute "won't". To the NRA and its like-minded gun rights crowd, the dead angels of Uvalde and so many other places are inconvenient collateral damage. They have no intention of changing their course.
I may write a few more politicians (as I've already done). As far as I know, I have never voted for anyone that's taken a dollar of NRA "blood money". For that is what it is: avert your eyes from the slaughter in which we are complicit.
In the meantime, I will continue to pray for my son and his unprotected 11 year olds.

Soccer seems to have some national relevance. The baseball team was 16-9 (before it began Big East play) coached by another Thompson who talks about doing well at the Big East tournament and going to the NCAA's. the swimming and diving teams won the Big East tournament. There are probably other examples of athletic achievement at Georgetown I don't know about. I am a basketball guy. Maybe the problem isn't Lee Reed.

In the summer of 1971 prior to enrolling at Georgetown, I and presumably the rest of the incoming Class of 1975 received a copy of "Georgetown University Origin and Early Years" by John Daley SJ. I have gone back and perused the book a couple of times since 2015. My quick review didn't disclose a single person of color, free or enslaved. Fifty years ago they were invisible to me and charitably, I would like to think they were invisible to Father Daley. No longer. I used to think of reparations as guilty self-flagellation. In a masterpiece of conflation, I would ask do the English owe reparations to millions of Irish who were driven from their island in the nineteenth century? No longer. A willingness to face the truth and a sincere effort to make amends will set us free.

In 2011 I watched Connecticut and Georgetown a 9 and 8 seed, two teams seemingly going nowhere play in the second of the BET with a UConn fan. After the Huskies won, I said “Well Mark if you don’t lose another game you’ll be National Champs”. We had a good laugh at the apparent absurdity of it..... Perhaps sometimes the wildest dreams come true. Don’t wake me up!

Pa Republican Senator Pat Toomey has publicly declared there is no evidence of fraud in Pa vote count. Toomey has occasionally shown some independence from Trump. He has also previously announced he is not running for re-election

I live in Delaware County Pa. I received my ballot by mail October 9. I voted and returned my ballot to the Delaware County courthouse the same day. I received e-mail notice on October 13th that my ballot was received. thanks to the Pa Republican-controlled legislature county officials could not begin to count these ballots until 7 am on November 3rd. I think when the Pa story is told. Blue voters in Delaware, Montgomery, Philadelphia Alleghany and a few other counties will have held the line. Me? I'm proud to say I took George Wills' advice.

Patrick Ewing arrived at the beginning of Coach Thompson's 10 year at the helm. Does anybody remember players from the Seventies- how about Merlin Wilson (still holds rebounding records), Jon Smith, Derrick Jackson, John Duren, and Craig Shelton.

Fascism takes root by attacking the legitimacy of democratic institutions. we have Heard the chants of "fake news" for years. In Germany Trump's forebears shouted "Lungenpresse" lying press. Now he's after an independent judiciary.

I made my inaugural visit to the Holocaust Museum on January 16th and saw Karski's name in a number of places. A courageous man and an inspiration.

I am at Kiawah this week and I seem to recall that you live in this part of the world. My good wishes do not have far to travel.

When asked why UConn (then a member of the Yankee Conference) in 1979 Dave Gavitt referred to them as "a sleeping giant". Sleepy would perhaps characterize the Dom Perno years through 1986.
