Couldn't be happier for Jeff. He's been a bit of the victim of the analytics set blaming a player for their overpriced contract.
Jeff is versatile and a great teammate and that is valuable. That's why in the biggest game of the season, Lebron wanted him out there with Love on the shelf.

PG: Akinjo 25 , McClung 15 SG: Blair 20, McClung 10, Mosley 10, SF: Pickett 15, Johnson 10, Malinowski 10, Mosley 5 PF: Leblanc 15, Walker 15, Pickett 10 Center: Govan 30, Mourning 15, Carter 5 numbers rounded to make numbers neat, perhaps giving too much run to malinowski if he's not actually a contributor at this level thent hose extra 10 go to leblanc, Johnson, and walker. Starting line up: Akinjo, McClung, Pickett, Leblanc, Govan. The rotation is too big. Between the freshmen (Akinjo, Carter, Leblanc, McClung), Walker, Malinowski and Mourning, someone is simply not likely to be good as advertised. I think you have 13 players getting at least five minutes, and that's just not likely to happen. I suspect the rotation is more likely to be something like this: PG: Akinjo, Moseley and McClung SG: Moseley, McClung, Blair ... and maybe Malinowski? One of these four will not see as much time as we suspect. SF: Pickett, Johnson with some minutes for 3 guard and Leblanc PF: Two of Johnson, Leblanc, Carter, Walker ... and maybe some smallball with Pickett if Leblanc and Carter are not ready. (Yes, I know Leblanc is not big, but he's physically more ready to play PF than Pickett defensively). C: Govan and pray. Will Carter or Walker or Mourning really be able to provide 10+ minutes? Agreed. Think we're overthinking this. We have 4 guards who will split time in fairly even 15-25 minute increments. Pickett and Govan are locks for 30 minutes. Back-up 3, 4 and back-up 5? May the best men win. We have options. Who wants it?

I think we're a bit obsessed with year to year kenpom and RPI. Richmond had its first losing season in a decade. That's not a bad game regardless of last year's RPI quadrant. Coppin State is technically in the same quadrant but there's no comparison. Basically there are three types of teams; Those that have almost no chance of being bad (Syracuse) Those that have no chance of being good (Florida A&M)
Everyone else The first ones help if you win, the second ones hurt no matter what, and the third ones only hurt if you lose. I would have liked one more in the first category in this tournament but since that's not the case, just want to avoid Florida A&M in the bracket and win it. Shouldn't Central Conn be in this category? Just wondering. We need o win some conference games and some conference tourney games to make the field...but I feel confident that we will be at a minimum top 3 in conference........always over-confident....lol I believe in Donyell Marshall! Seriously, he's done a good job so I think they might not be terrible and the trajectory there is good. Florida A&M is dying for a season like CC had last year which is quite the sad state of affairs considering.

It's not great, but I'm seeing slow improvement: Here was last year's Non Con schedule, according to RPI quadrants: Quadrant 1: 0 games Quadrant 2: Cuse Quadrant 3: @richmond Quadrant 4: 9 games And here's 2018-19 so far (using last year's RPI): Quadrant 1: @ cuse Quadrant 2: Quadrant 3: @ illinois, 1-2 Jamaica games Quadrant 4: Richmond, 1-2 Jamaica games With 6 more games tbd. It's slow progress, but it's still progress. And it's enough already to keep us out of the 20 worst non-con schedules in the league (low bar, I know). I'd be okay if the remaining games were broken up like this: 1-2 against RPI 101-200 (or better?) 2-3 against RPI 201-275 1-3 against RPI 276+ I'd be happy if they're any stronger than that, or if one or two are road/neutral games. It's still not improvement at the speed many of us would like, but it would be a considerable upgrade from last season. For the 2019-20 season, I'd need to see at least an equivalent jump in schedule quality, which would mean finally having a couple of worthwhile opponents at home, and a big preseason tournament. I think we're a bit obsessed with year to year kenpom and RPI. Richmond had its first losing season in a decade. That's not a bad game regardless of last year's RPI quadrant. Coppin State is technically in the same quadrant but there's no comparison. Could he have two (senior and freshman year) medical waivers? If so, that would be odd but given his PT, he probably should have been redshirted freshman year straight away.

"Still stand by my assessment of Mac. He has improved a ton in his first two years and Ewing gets a lot of credit for that. But I still don't think anyone who saw him in high school really objectively believed he was going to be this good based on his HS career."

I wonder if the “Scouts” watched any Hoya games last year? If so he/she/them are giving a lot of cred to a talent level that went 5-13 in the BE. Also, I immediately dismiss the credibility of anyone who spells the school “GeorgeTown” ... The scouting report is noted by his 125 twitter followers. Not sure that even qualifies as a "The Subculture."

Short profile that featured two substantive comments: One Eastern conference GM said he should return and he would benefit from Pat's coaching. Another scout said he was possible second rounder because of shooting and passing abilities. Five scouts polled: one said "stay in draft," three said "return to school," the other said, "undecided." FWIW poll turned out similarly for Shamorie Ponds with same breakdown of the five scouts. Wrote above before I saw this, so here it is: That's probably about the breakdown in this thread. So all of Hoyatalk should now officially consider itself as knowledgeable as NBA scouts.

Absolutely love reading things like this!! Obviously it's a great thing for the young man but it's tremendous for the program as well.. Assuming he does walk on, he'd also be the fifth high honors student and second valedictorian in the backcourt (Jagan being the first). That's pretty cool for the program. Wanted to point this out because when we start winning, the Post or Times will write a four-page "expose" about one of our players cheating on a biology test in 10th grade.

Disagree because his coach is Patrick Ewing. Who knows who would coach him in the G league. Pat is a big proven NBA coach. I would agree if it was JT3. I have no idea who's coaching in the G league but I'd be surprised if they weren't some accomplished or well thought of coaches seeing that it's affiliated so closely with the NBA.. NBA teams are sending highly drafted kids down every year, that signals to me they're confident in the folks coaching in the league.. Not sure how you can go there about JT3 considering the number of players he's had go to the NBA It's a mixed bag on G league coaches. Keep in mind these are coaches either trying to get back to or get their first crack at a position Pat had for 15 years. It's not they're not good, it is just that Pat is clearly more accomplished. The second any G league coach is anywhere near as good as Ewing they are out of the g league. Agreed its safe to assume the NBA trusts those guys but Jessie has to as well. And if his college coach weren't Ewing, it probably would be an easier decision. But it is probably a factor he is weighing.

When it comes to shooting I like to focus on results over form but dammm if this kid doesn't have both a gorgeous stroke with range and by the looks of both highlight films a nice handle as well... Hope Romey Talley's is on the squad the next 4 years... Where can we find some of his stats? highschoolsports.nj.com/player/charles-talley/Looks like 17ppg. 71 threes in 24 games so anyone who thought he could shoot is apparently right.

So we currently have at Illinois, at Syracuse, Richmond, and a tournament that (let's use Colorado State in this tourney from last year as a proxy for us) something like Winthrop/Tulane/Florida State level competition minimum for three games.
So...what's the issue again? We're halfway through the non-conference and we have six perfectly reasonable games. Does our RPI SOS carry over from last year now?

I realize it's hard to believe with his vanishing act in many games this year, but Jagan was the go to guy on that St Anthony's team and he can shoot. Can Ewing find that kid this year and tell him to fire away? We'll see. I have to think that watching Blair and Mac will help. You can't see your teammates scoring and not think "I want to get in on this."

My biggest question about Jagan is whether his passivity is real or an artifact of the "do no harm and let the system work" era. Our most passive perimeter players were Mosely, Johnson, amd Mulmore vs Blair, Pickett, and Dickerson. There seems to be a correlation there.
If it is the latter, he can still change that mindset and that, plus developing a more well-rounded offensive game, could make him an effective player.

Take all day. Whether Govan comes back or not, we need another warm body in the front court. One year of him coming off the bench grabbing rebounds and giving the starters a break, absolutely worth it. Yeah I don't get the downside here. Add another one to the Walker, LeBlanc, Carter, Mourning sweepstakes with no risk. He's a frontcourt Malinowski.

Eric Paschal over an 18-22 yo Patrick Ewing? Unless it's April Fools Day again and it was made in jest, that is the most ridiculous post I've read on this board. And, by the way, I've seen plenty of PE games, including as a Georgetown and a Knick season ticketholder. Patrick Ewing is one of the 10 best college players ever. Period. People may revisionist history this all they like with what happened as a Knick (top 50 parenthetically) but he was a far more influential college player than Jordan, Shaq, Hakeem, Robinson, Duncan, Malone, Barkley, Etc, etc He made 3 all tourney teams in 4 years and was one bad pass and one fluke away from 3 titles. Only Walton, Kareem and maybe Sampson were better modern college big men, and Kareem and Walton are not that modern. Sure, Pat was the centerpiece of 3 Final Fours in the golden age of college ball, lead the Knicks to 12 straight playoff appearances and one lousy Starks night from an NBA title, and has two Olympic golds. But Erik Paschall was the fifth-best player on a title team in an era where the best players leave early and will star in the German B-league in a year. You have to take Paschall. It's called playing the percentages. It's what good managers do.

We finished 8th last year and havent made the tournament in 4 years. Did we think we'd pull Michigan State?
Legit game, two teams on the upswing.

Thanks B&G. Three big games, three decent games, three cupcakes and a tournament would be fine by me in year 2. Looking forward to the details.

AAU stats 13pts 8rebs 2.6blks 61% FG took 7 threes in 17 games. Yep classic 2 game, clearly. How many of his games or highlights have you watched where he's been in the post? Darrell Owens who is the reason he's coming here and see him more than anyone on here said he's a wing yet everyone on here thinks he is a post player. He's not a shooter but he plays on the perimeter and drives to the bucket. He's 6'5. I really hope he transforms his game and grows 3 inches and can play the 4 because we really need it. That said I'm sick of seeing guys playing in the wrong spot because of need and then people complain that they aren't good. My issue is a PF is not primarily a low post player in 2018. He can defend PFs, operate on the wing and high post, block shots, and rebound. The argument that he doesn't play in the low post and thus not a 4 is "he can't play PF because he's not a center." I don't disagree with his game, I disagree with it meaning he's "more of a 2".

Josh is closer to a 2 than a 4. Anyone expecting him to be a post player is in for a rude awakeneing. He is a good defender and rebounder though. He's going to be our best rim defender and likely will end up playing a ton of 4 for us. I doubt he sees a minute at the 2. I don't expect much out of him on offense at all, except maybe some offensive rebounding. But his size, athleticism and team need means he's likely going to play 3/4 and maybe even some undersized 5, based on team need. AAU stats 13pts 8rebs 2.6blks 61% FG took 7 threes in 17 games. Yep classic 2 game, clearly.
