As a native Seattleite, you can imagine i am pretty excited right now - as long as the team is still in seattle next year. As for merchandise, talked to a guy at the team store who said that they likely won't have official jerseys until sept. - everything adidas has right now is going to making durant jerseys. that said, you can have something custom made from the team store (http://seattleteamshop.com/sonjer.html).
That brings me to a bigger question - What number will Jeff Green wear? #32 is the retired number of "Downtown" Freddie Brown (http://www.nba.com/sonics/0001images/retired_jerseys_brown.jpg)

The Sonics retiring Downtown Freddie Brown's number is the equivalent of the Padres retiring Steve Garvey's -- just desperate to have some history. Unretire that sucker!

If you'd ever seen "Steve Garvey's Celebrity Billfishing Tournament," you'd know why what you just said is complete blasphemy. Earl Christensen from Toshiba is a rockstar. Garvey is a god.

Dare I suggest, because of where he went to school...No. 33? Oh man, I had the same thought. 'Destroya you must be stoked. I wanna see some more of that Seattle pride that came out on Super Bowl Sunday '06! My barometer for Seattleite fanship is my fair-weather-fan Seattle-native girlfriend. She couldn't be happier about this situation, and is considering actually following the team again.

I don't think anything will top the secondary 'Hawks-Steelers battle that transpired during that Pitt game in '06! This is why college bball should not be played on Superbowl Sunday. Or the Superbowl should not be played on a day when Georgetown is playing basketball.

Looks like Jeff is going to don number seven: www.nba.com/sonics/news/draft070628.htmlOr, maybe thats just the only jersey that had available? Notice that Durant is pictured showing off the back of the jersey and his name, possibly because the Sonics knew they would have Durant long before they thought about Jeff.

I imagine 07 has to just be a reference to the year, otherwise we'd just see 7. The Sonics' site had ads for Durant #35 merchandise almost immediately after it was official, and probably had things in the works as soon as it was official that Portland had promised Oden the #1 pick. Jeff could wear 33, although hopefully his Sonics career is more prestigious than the last Hoya to wear it for Seattle. I've never been a huge Sonics fan, but I always thought the only two numbers currently retired that made sense were 32 for Fred Brown and 10 for Nate MacMillan (and I suppose 19 for Lenny Wilkens, but his achievements as a coach are much more memorable than as a player). I'd want to see 11 retired next because I love me some Detlef Schrempf.

Still one of my all-time favorite HoyaDestroya moments (and there are many): standing up and clapping in the face of that Pitt fan in the YA section while sporting the SeaHawks cap! And hey, her Duke fanship just illustrates my point--by mid-season she was following the Hoyas more than the Blue Devils (I might have had something to do with that). Besides, you're the one marrying a Duke fan!

The Oklahoma City Supersonics??? I would wait a year on that jersey. Too bad as I think Seattle should keep a team but the price of building stadiums is ridiculous and since the city has to finance it, I think they are gone.

Rashard Lewis wears 7 for them currently, and though he's a free agent they're not going to be giving away his number that quickly. I imagine Green jerseys will be difficult to find since Durant is the most marketable player to come out since LeBron. His jerseys figure to sell really well. If you want a Green jersey and soon, might want to go the customized route, once you find out what number he's wearing, and just get the back printed up to say "Green".

Most importantly, the Jeff Green jersey that gets put up in McDonough will be Supersonics, right? Even though he was drafted as a Celt?

Well if they keep Rashard Lewis--he's #7, so Jeff will wear #1--because he's the man! As for the Garvey references--how you talk about that and do not bring up "rising comedian" Michael FLOORWAX is beyond comprehension. That is truly classic--Floorwax not getting big was as upsetting as realizing Rachel Dratch was in costume escorting players last night and Neil Cavuto/George Costanza are really prototypes based on Mike Tirico.

Actually don't they put the jersey of the team that drafted him irrgeardless of any trades made during the night of the draft. I'm pretty sure it'll be a boston jersey even though he's going to seattle.

i will be donning a custom sonics jersey for pre-BE season next year, at which time i plan to switch to a newly-minted austin freeman jersey... probably have to throw a suit jacket on for the jumbotron! as for moving to another city, latest rumor is that a local indian tribe with lots of casino cash might make a play (Muckleshoots) to keep them in the area. same thing happened to mariners in the mid-90s, but a little playoff drive kept them in the city and got a new stadium - problem is that key arena was renovated not so long ago and people in the city are not thrilled with the idea of shelling out a bunch of new money for something they don't think they need.
and i don't mind superbowl sunday and hoya basketball on the same day... almost made for the perfect sports day... instead i now know the names of some very unfortunate nfl refs.
anyone know if jeff had a different number at any point in high school?
