the line in the post is 14.
i say we lose 77-62. we trail by 4 at half and keep it close until the 8 minute mark. eventually, illinois pulls away with better overall talent and depth. a learning experience for the young hoyas.

I'll be the first to say we pull off the upset. 54-51 in a low scoring-poor shooting affair for both teams. Owens and Bowman lead with 35 of our 54. Ok, I'm an optimist.
Illini 67 - Hoyas 58. Just not enough talent to keep up with #1 team in the country. Illini up by 8 at the half, by 15 most of the second half and we end with a couple of 3's to make it look more respectable in the end.

Hoyas slow it down to shorten the game, trail by 8 at the break and lose 61-46.

14 is an awful lot of points even if we do not have any real home court advantage. Illinois 68 - Hoyas 61.

Top-ranked Illini hold off Hoyas
Washington DC (AP) Illinois survives a barrage of late three-pointers to cling to a 72-68 victory. Illinois opened the game on a 15-5 run, but the Hoyas led by 24 points from Brandon Bowman slowly chipped away at the lead, cutting it to 5 at halftime.
Illinois pushed the lead back up to 17 after a 5 minute field goal drought early in the second half for the Hoyas. Georgetown began a furious push with 4:00 remaining started by Jeff Green's work on the block and John Wallace finding his three-point touch, but the Hoyas could get no closer than 4 points as the Illini were able to make clutch free throws down the stretch.

Georgetown by 3.
By the way, where is the big waving "G" flag on the front page of hs.com? I know its usually reserved for "big" games, but to me, this is a big game.

Hoyas shock the world and beat Illinois 69-61.
Unfortunately we remain unranked when we fall to San Jose St. on Saturday.

This is a tough call....
It will either be us by a squeaker because we are shooting 60% in a slowdown game, winning 65-62, or...
Our iron 5 starters get tired out by waves of good athletes and we eventually fall 85-68.

Georgetown - 102, Illinois - 63.
Green has triple-double (36/12/13 blocks). Wallace and Cook lock down their vaunted back-court. I continue taking these pretty green pills I found in the medicine cabinet.
GO HOYAS!!! THE ROAD BACK BEGINS TONIGHT!!!

84 to 64 Illini
Perhaps the Hoyas can be competitive for a half.

82-77 Illinois Georgetown has an 8 point lead at one time early in the second half-- but suffers a cold stretch and eventually succombs in what could have been a big-time coming out party. A couple of officials calls go the wrong way near the end and so it goes. or
70-63 Hoyas. Gtown shoots 18-19 from the line to steal a defensive battle. Gtown has 9 blocks for the game.

Pomeroy is at 18 -- probably understated a bit because of his margin of victory calc and overstated a bit because of pace issues -- I really think we'll be disciplined enough to win the "pace battle."
Unless they are so quick we can't pass the ball.

UHHHH-Ilinois was up on Wake by 32 in the second half. This is a game to watch how the HOYAS stick to their new system and not become "Reid-like" when things start to go downhill

"Hoyas Surprise Illini with 1-3-1 Zone"
Hoyas win 67-62 with 45 of their points coming from forwards Brandon Bowman and Jeff Green. By maintaining a slow pace of play and confusing the Illini's deadly trio of guards with a soft 1-3-1 defense the Hoyas pull out the upset of the year thus far.
Bowman 23-11-4 (blocks) Green 22-10-8-4 Wallace 10-3-10
We shoot 50% from the field, 40% from 3 land
