I remember that before the season began, somebody was going to try to organize a bar in New York where all the alumni could gather for big games. I sent an e-mail confirming my interest, but have heard nothing.
Is that plan still in the works? If not, does anyone have any ideas of a bar we could meet at for the Illinois game?

What does that mean? Is that the name of a bar, and if so, where is it?

LOL, no i was just "bumping" the thread back to the top of the board in case anybody knew of a get together. I got an e-mail recently from the GU Club of NY about a happy hour at 3rd and Long (3rd and around 34th, I think), but that's not really all that convenient to me (I'll be at 59th), and besides, I don't know anybody else going there. If anybody is getting together, please post here; otherwise I'll just fend for myself. Thanks!

Originally, I had agreed to arrange a convenient bar, perhaps with good drink specials, but more importantly, with a guaranteed big screen tv dedicated to watch our beloved Hoyas taken on #1 Illinois. However, after suggesting that I spearhead this effort, I realized that this was the type of game worth making a trip down to D.C. for, as I haven't seen a Hoya game in person since they took on Temple to kick off the season. Alas, I decided to meet up with several other Hoyas, such as Gigafan, and Gammo, and head down to watch the Hoyas take on Illinois at the MCI Center, then watch Sweentey and my Knicks take on the Wizards on Friday, and round it out with a trip to our beloved McDonough to watch the Hoyas beat up on San Jose State.
Unfortunately, on Tuesday afternoon, I foolishly pulled a muscle while lifting weights, injuring my neck and upper back/shoulders. Naively, I thought that I may be in shape to still make the trip down to D.C., but waking up yesterday, barely able to climb out of bed, I realized that I wasn't going to be able to go anywhere, maybe not even to the kitchen. Well, I thought there was stilla chance that by today things would be better, or at least good enough to meet up with some local Hoyas and witness a long-shot upset (I was dreaming in more ways than one.) But I'm only now barely able to sit up straight in front of the tv at home, so unfortunately, I am in no condition to organize anything or go anywhere. The only thing that can life my spirits today is watching our Hoyas on tv (thank you YES network), and I will trade a week or two of my active life (with a pulled neck muscle) for a victory tonight, so my fingers are crossed as I type.
However, you can mark my words on this one, I will be looking to actively organize events for almost all the televised Hoya cames come the new year. There are a good bunch of us NYC Hoyas here, and now that I have returned from Boston (damn Sox) and am back in NYC, you can expect not only the return of MEGAFAN to NY, but also, if you're lucky, maybe even a journey to MEGAFANLAND!!!
Seriously, I recommend that others in the area, make some recommendations and get together. Tonight's game is an easy choice, as there are many bars with big screens that will be showing the Hoya game, because, after all, we are playing the #1 team in the country, and we are on YES tonight. It will be more difficult to secure a place when we are televised against a poor non-local team, and when Football, the Knicks, UConn, etc. are taking place the same night.
Some quick recommendations for those uptown include:\
Blondies (on the Upper East and West side), Ship of Fools (Upper East Side), The Back Page (Upper East Side - I think still co-owned by a Gtown alum)
Also, heading near the Garden, you can find a couple of good spots, more often frequented during the BET:
Mustang Henry & Sally's on 7th avenue, Cafe 31 (on 31st between 7/8 ave.), the Tempest and Charlie O's (Skybox) on 8th Avenue, etc.
All the way downtown, there are many more, but Nevada Smiths is a good viewing spot in the East Village, always has $2 beers, but make sure they're not showing a soccer/rugby game first).
GO HOYAS!!! BEAT ILLINOIS!

And I was the one who took some names down to get a regular NYC game-watching gig going. But since A) responses were less than enthusiastic, and B) so few games are on TV this year, I put those plans on hold for the time being.
Suffice to say that my dream of a fun, regular place (i.e. everybody just knows to go there w/out checking first) to watch Hoyas games has not yet died. But we may have to wait until year 2 of the JTIII era.

Big Dog, don't worry, I think that heading into the Big East schedule, as well as the BET, we will yet have a couple great NYC Hoya get-togethers. Remember the one preceding the NIT a couple of years ago, with like 20-30 Hoyas showing up, spanning all generations, and lots of drinks, ha! Don't give up so quickly, we'll get it going. Stay in touch and keep the faith...
GO HOYAS!!! SHOCK THE WORLD: UPSET #1 ILLINOIS!
