In reading the Sunday post, it quickly became evident that the top talent from the area was not staying in DC area schools (again). There was a guy going to UNC, another to Kentucky, one to 'Cuse, etc., etc. It focused on Maryland's inability to get these players but I really think it reflects on us as well. These players were pre-III recruits but I hope a year from now I am reading about upcoming high school seniors that have either signed, or are considering the hilltop.

The top DC area high school kids often don't stay in DC area high schools!
Yes, DC area kids do often leave town for college. What major metropolitan area does that not occurr? Is it a shame that most McDAA quality area guys overlook Gtown, Maryland, Viirginia, GW, etc? Yes. And hopefully that will change (at least for Gtown). But the arae schools get their share of very good area kids. The DC area 2004 class was much more impressive than the class of 2005 in most people's opinion. Think of Rudy Gay, Jeff Green, James Gist, Folarin Campbell, Roy Hibbert, Davis Nwanko, Manny Quezada, Churchill, Cheyenne Moore (before he left town for prep school), Sam Young, Isiah Swann, and a bunch more high D1 players. The 2005 from what we can tell doesn't even come close.
Now the 2006 and 2007 DC classes are loaded and early returns suggest 2008 may be as well. So its good that Gtown is trying to get back on the right track now.

When "Pops" took over the program in '72, he brought 5 DC studs with him in his first recruiting class. He began to stem the tide and get some of the best local kids to commit to GU. It was a big advantage early in his tenure. I'd like to see JT3 do the same. Not to the exclusion of national recruits, but he has an extra advantage here, given his dad's reputation and contacts reinforced by his own.
if the DC/Balto/VA area can become the base of our recruiting we can make a lot of progress in a hurry.
I am sure JT3 knows that and it is part of his plan.
