On the day John Thompson III was hired in the spring of 2004, did any of you out there in Hoya Nation ever dream that we could win a Big East Title, Big East Tournament Title, and be in the Elite 8 within three short years? What JT III and his staff have done is a minor miracle. I remember watching Syracuse in 2003 and UCONN in 2004 winning the National Title and just wondering if I would ever see Georgetown be able to compete again on that level. So please Hoya fans, take a moment to appreciate just how far we have come in three short years and I hope we have enjoyed the journey this special team has taken us on this year!
With that being said; let's do what the 1982 and 1995 teams couldn't - BEAT UNC in the NCAA Tournament.

hell of a post! its why when we lost to FL last year on a open missed jumper i had a smile on the entire plane ride back to bwi. i dont know what it is, but fans today today are just asinine.
coach k stole a line from big john when vcu beat then and he stated in part "when u lose games like this, or fall on hard times, it makes appreciate your the success you had in the past that you took for granted."
tubby said it so eloquently when he asked a kentucky sports talk host, "how long has kentucky had its bball program? how many national titles does the university have? well guess what, i have one of them."
some fool from kentucky actually said on the the radio tonight that he believes pat riley would want to come and coach at uk..................

A great post. I was at the Vandy game Friday with my 11 year old son who is already a Hoya fanatic. It was probably the best GU game I witnessed in over 35 years.
I thought back to that March morning when my then-13 year old yelled up the stairs that ESPN was reporting that Esh was fired. I thought then that it would take 3-5 years just to be decent, possibly making the NCAAa in a few years.
This is a team and a program to be very proud of, and this year has been one hell of a ride, no matter what happens vs. UNC. For us to be in the mix with all of these huge state universities with unlimited resources in amazing, and we seem to be doing it the right way.

The amazing experiences, the good times, the memories...I have Georgetown basketball to thank for all of it. Before I came to GU, I had no idea who He Whose Name Must Not Be Uttered was or anything like that. I was blissfully ignorant, wrapped up in Division-IA football and other things that I knew would have no bearing on my college choices or career.
Freshman year, I was a neophyte. I wanted to support Georgetown sports, the football team (homecoming vs. VMI, yeah!), whatever I could, but the opportunities seemed to be, well, lacking. I did as much as I could with Hoya Blue, and having most of my arm hair singed off during Hoyapalooza seemed like a worthwhile experience. But it still seemed very lacking.
The difference between that year and the next was night and day. Not only were the expectations for the basketball team raised, the expectations for the students were raised as well. For those who were looking for that, for real comraderie, it was a true blessing. I've enjoyed every bit of it an never looked back.
I care about what happens tomorrow night. I care deeply, with every fiber of my being. But whatever happens, I've been made a Hoya for life. Nothing that comes afterwards can change that. The NIT games at home in 2005 made me a fan. The Duke game, with me sweating and dying in the front row, made me a believer. The 'Nova game on the road made me a fanatic. And the Vandy game? It made me forever indebted to John Thompson (both of them), the Ewings, all the players, all the role players, and all the fans who make it happen.
I don't know what my college experience would have been like if I had picked somewhere else, that somewhere else likely being w/o a meaningful basketball program. But it wouldn't have been the amazing ride that it's been, and will continue to be. For that, I will be eternally grateful.

Word up, jld. I've got a 12 year old point guard who wants to be Jon Wallace. It's great.
And how great is it to see the top of the page read "Georgetown vs. North Carolina? This is the game everybody wanted to see. I have the feeling that there will be much, much more to come over the next few years. Notice has been served. Georgetown is back.
In the meantime, I am going to crack open a Heineken, turn up the volume on my iPod, and listen to The Who blast out Baba O'Riley while the house sleeps.
Sleep well, my babies.

I go back to Derrick Jackson's jumpshot against WVU in Morgantown in'75 propelling Georgetown into the tournament for the first time in decades. I was there and remember the awe of just saying over and over "We're int he tournament".
We've been to the mountain-top and near the mountain-top a few times since then.
