No Ray in the box score. 20+ minutes in first 2 games, 0 in Davidson game. What's up? Is he injured again?

I don't want to spark any argument here, but in my honest opinion, Ray Reed and Amadou have NO BUSINESS playing D1 ball at a Big East School. Sorry, just don't think they can cut it.

He's one of the players whose game needs to change quite a lot to fit into the new system. It may also be that JTIII may develop a rotation not unlike that which Al Skinner uses: 7-8 guys get the majority of the playing time, barring injuries. The rest need to demonstrate inprovement in the practice gym to earn PT.

Amadou is a walk-on, so let's not bash the guy. He's played because he outperformed scholarship players. That's impressive in itself.
As for Ray, I don't really think this game is necessarily indicative of anything. III had something working, and it was pretty hard to pull Cook or Wallace last night.
Ray couldn't even practice with the team until a week ago. Adn he was probably the player that needed the most instruction, given his rather wild style.
But he still has talent and quickness. Not something to quickly give up on.

I've been on record that Reed is not a Big East player. He's played 20+ minutes in two games and did absolutely nothing but take things off the table. Zero points and more TOs than assists? Obviously JTIII and staff watch film and went with the obvious move.
Shorten the roation to 7 and play your best players. It's a wonderful change from the old regimes. We just don't have 9-10 Big East players (as JT would attest). Let's just play our best players as many minutes as possible and see what happens.

I don't think we've seen the last of Reed. I know this may disappoint some of you, but I do believe that the injury has put him behind the rest of the guards and he may have been trying to do too much in the first few games to impress the new staff. The guy hasn't had much practice time and a freshman walk-on (albeit, a good one based on last night's performance) takes the starting pg job. It's easily understandable that Reed may have been pressing a bit much in the first few games. Let's let him get some good time in with the offense and see where he is come January before we start saying that he shouldn't be on a Big East roster. Hell, that seems to be the statement that this board always turns to when someone isn't a starter and isn't playing well. The kid is barely into his sophomore year so let's see what JT III can do with him in this system. From every report I've heard, the kid can shoot. I didn't exactly see that last year, but I'm throwing every thing from last year out the window and going to make my judgements based on what I see from these players' throughout this year.

I've never heard of him as a shooter. But he is probably our most athletic player in the backcourt. Given that, he needs to figure out a way to make a big contribution on the defensive end. With his quickness, he should be a real pest on defense.
I think JTIII likes Ray. He had nice things to say after the Cidatel game, to the effect of Ray needs to get better and get PT, but he's my man.

Like Playa, I have actually heard of him as a shooter as well. I think I remember reading that he shot 52% from three point range in his senior year of high school. I didn't see anything that would show that in his freshman season, but maybe in the new system we will start to see him knock down some more shots and prove to be a good shooter.

Ray was a very effectie 3 pt shooter in HS, apparently shooting 55% from there his senior year. Then again, HS stats are sketchy. Either way, given what we've seen so far from other folks, I wouldn't be shocked to see him start drilling the ball. BB 32% to 42% AC 32% to 47% DO 44% to 46% RR 31% to 0% JW 53% JG 40% Everyone else 0% Yeah, it is after a REALLY good game, but there's some improvement there.

First off, great win in against a respectable opponent at their place which most teams in major conferences refuse to do--including Duke who played Davidson in Charlotte.
As for Ray Reed, I think the issue with him is will he be able to accept a role instead of thinking he's a starting point guard?? Guys like Reed can be valuable players if they buy into the system and realize their limitations. When you take a look at GU we've not had that for a while. We've had guys who are limited and think they're better than they are. Well Reed isn't going to be an NBA player--so why not accept a role and be the best college player he can be, help the team and get a degree?? Reed should make his name focusing on defense and ragging the opposing point guard. When you have guys like Reed willing to accept roles, that's when you have a team become a program and it makes recruiting easier as well--you fit into roles and some guys are going to be primary factors and others pieces who need to fulfill a role. Reed is the latter and faster he understands that, he'll be successful.

Agreed, but we also need to try not to sit on both sides of the fence as fans. We tend to rip Owens to pieces for being a role player, but want to make sure others understand their role. I think we would like to see more aggressiveness out of Owens and less aggressiveness from Ray, but that might not be the roles that the coach has laid out for them.
