A lot of people think we are going to lose tonight, and they have valid reasons. But if we win, this should be seen as a positive, not just another Hoya early season roadkill. This is a decent program, and a major step up from the likes of the Citadel. I am hoping for a win tonight obviously, and it will be a nice little achievement if we can get it.
Look for Roy and Green to lead the way.
GO HOYAS!!!!!!!!

Both this and the Oral Roberts game should not be underestimated, win or lose.
I thought before the season that this game would be tougher than Temple. Not to say I think we're going to lose by 20, since I think Temple played above themselves, but I think there is a good chance both Oral Roberts and Davidson are better than much of our non-conference slate, Illinois excepted.

I think this game is going to be a really tough test, particularly after what Davidson has shown against Mizzou and Duke... I'm hoping for a win, but as with most of this season, I will be happy if there are signs of improvement.

all I know is 8 minutes in and 1-7 combined shooting between Bowman and Cook won't get it done. But, Wallace is hot early, and it's close LET'S GO HOYAS!!!!

The Davidson broadcast is interesting to listen to...some parahphrased quotes...
GU isn't a better team, but they are a much more athletic team. They've gotten almost every single single loose ball.
After a 3-sec violation: They were clearly intimidated by GU's height. Green and Bowman are 6'9" and Hibbert, well, 7'2" is tall.
On Hibbert: runs well for a big guy. Nice move, but rimmed out. When you get a pick by Hibbert, you get a pick. Beautiful pass by hibbert out of the high post.
Nice backdoor cut by Bowman... Gushing over Bowman's athleticism.
"Georgetown plays defense with a fervor. They play it with a passion."
"Georgetown content to milk clock. They don't panic."

Good to hear that they are getting the loose balls. They must really mean business. I hope they keep up the early spurt. Go Hoyas!!!

Are they just hot or are they playing confidently? Great effort either way. This is fantastic!

Four players in double figures. Nice to see. That's how the Princeton should look...
"I'm not going to even comment on this. The referee is so stupid."
"Georgetown is a well coached team. Georgetown is a very disciplined team. They just look for the backdoor cut, and if they don't have it, they take a 3."
Of course, making us look good, makes Davidson look better. So they have some stake in pumping GU up.

"This is what I like about Georgetown. They've had fifteen chances tonight to take a bad shot, and they've resisted every time."
I thought that that was my favorite quote, until the announcer said this:
"The execution [by Georgetown] is exquisite."

I feel like I'm in a dream reading the snippets of the Davidson announcers' comments on Gtown's execution tonight. [Thanks for posting those by the way.] Unbelievable, glorious feeling. Of course, it's early in the season, but this was a very big win for our program. It fans the flicker of hope that lies deep within all of us who long for the Hoyas to matter again. The performance must be incredibly gratifying to III and the team. To see such considerable and tangible signs of progress is more than we had any right to expect at this early juncture.
LET'S GO HOYAS!!!

I have an upset of UConn on my Christmas list this year. Calhoun has annoyed me with the way, at least in my mind, he's slighted Gtown in the last months. Last year, he made a fool of himself saying Okafor was better than Ewing, Zo, etc. Then, earlier this year, I read how he wants to establish a "program" at UConn like UNC, etc. Fine enough, but then he has to say "unlike what John Thompson had at Georgetown."
It's still probably a pipe dream wish, but I like my chances much better now. Please, please, please.... Let's humble Calhoun in the New Year.

I think you are misinterpreting what Calhoun had to say about the GU program under JTII. I don't think he was criticizing the program, I think he was saying that he could never build a program at UConn like JTII had at GU, where the team had a huge advantage from the intimidation factor just by walking on the floor.
Nevertheless, if you choose to hate UConn, it's ok by me. ;D

I live in CT and have had the misfortune of being exposed to Calhoun coverage ad nauseam. You are right, hoyarooter, in that he has made occasional comments about how intimidating we were, but there have been definite swipes at the Hoyas' tradition in my view.
He definitely could use a measure of humility in my view. You'd think that the guy invented bball by the way he talks.

I live in Boston and I have a win over UConn penciled into my freakin holiday list too. I hate Cuse, but they are soo many husky fans in my office who I had to deal with after the NCAAs that I would give my right arm for a victory...
That being said my intern is a Cuse fan...and nothing would make me happier than to rub a victory in his face.
On a side note -- my intern goes to Emerson and I had no idea he was a Cuse fan. Had I known this when I interviewed him -- well, let's just say that that cute blonde sophmore coed from BU might be making my copies this afternoon -- stupid integrity.

See, what students don't realize is that when you graduate into the workforce, office hoops rivalries become terrifically important and interesting!

Ah the joys of office fandom...there are so many big east schools represented in my office.
Majority are UConn, then BC (well they aren't BE but are hated more than ever now by all the others) & Cuse, some PC grads and a handful of other BE fans...
The best part is the smack down any ACC fan gets in the office. That's really the only time I like having all these idiot Huskies around, they are pretty useful at smack talking Duke/UNC/MD fans...
Thankfully, at least in my office, BC fans are taking a lot of flack -- but I'm curious how that's flying elsewhere.
