..is the sound of ca$h register drawers slamming shut, as Benedict Arnold College got their helmets handed to them at home by previously .500 Syracuse, losing 43-17 at home in a game where a safety scored 3 TDs against them (2 offensively). Most of the media here in the Boston area had BC penned into a BC$ bowl slot all week. Guess they'll have to redo all those budgets on the Heights that already had that BC$ money allocated before the chicken hatched. ;D Never mind... the move was all about stronger academic alliances.

I was really hoping that they would somehow both lose ;D, but it's still nice to see the ACCholes get the Bowl Consolation Series rejection.

You guys are completely blinded by hatred for Syracuse, which stayed loyal to the Big East. I derived such satisfaction from BC's implosion, definitely the best sports moment for me of the (albeit dreary) year.
The money quote is from BC's coach:
"I'm just glad it's over with the Big East," O'Brien continued. "It's been a tough year and a half. It didn't have to end this way . . . But, for whatever reason, there's a lot of animosity toward Boston College."
DUH.

Why not take it up with your administrators, who put you in this position, and your team, which you failed to motivate with a $14 million + payoff on the line. (And don't let anyone tell you otherwise, this has always been about the money.) Here's the outrage from shrinking violet BC alum Bob Ryan, who apparently wants his money back: Apology due for this sorry performancewww.boston.com/sports/colleges/football/articles/2004/11/28/apology_due_for_this_sorry_performance/Continental Tire Bowl here we come! (a money-losing proposition when all is said and done, by the way)

The only reason that they look better right now is that the ACC made their decision for them, and the SU PR folks did a good job of covering their tracks and spinning after the fact.

I meant to reply to this last night but lost my connection while writing. I was elated over the Cuse's win. My hatred to Syracuse does not extend to football and besides I did not want those bastards in Boston to get the BCS game. That would have been the ultimate final slap in the face to the BE. To be honest I even root for Cuse's basketball team in most of its out of conference games and have done so for the last few years because I'm all about the Big East doing well in all sports. Big picture, folks.

There are no winners in this match-up. The real winner is the Big East as this upset almost assures the BCS spot will go to Pitt. That is unless, they find some way to lose to S. Florida this upcoming week.

It's great that BC will be shut out of the BCS now, as they walk with their tail between their legs over to the ACC. However, this really makes a mockery of the Big East as a football conference, with unranked Pitt somehow getting the BCS bid now, barring a collapse against South Florida.
The Big East will still be the undisputed best basketball conference in the land next year, with the likes of Cincinnati, Marquette, and Louisville coming over. However, the fact that the Big East, as a joke of a football conference, will be losing its automatic BCS bid is troubling to me. It is basically a mid-major football conference now. Although Georgetown isn't in the Big East for football, it is still affiliated with the league as a whole, and this doesn't look good.
However, this could make a jump to Division I-A football easier...
Yeah, right.

I think we're gonna have a road trip up to the BC game this season. I was hoping to make a sign that reads "ACCholes". Would that be a bit much? ;D

My guess is that you would not be well received... and you'd look pretty silly when Craig Smith tears the Hoyas apart inside.

Even if a man named Craig was to tear us apart again I don't think I would look silly based solely on that. ;D
Either I would look silly no matter what or I wouldnt look silly at all. Its not like the sign would read "Georgetown will destroy BC." That would make me look like an idiot if we lost. However, they are ACCholes either way.
So basically, I would either look silly just for having the sign in the first place regardless of the outcome, or I wouldnt look silly at all. It definitely wouldn't be the classiest thing, but the lack of class of a certain college is why we are discussing this in the first place.
I have no doubt that I would incur the wrath of many an eagle fan.
Maybe we should just waive dollar bills at them, or draw up a huge fake check from the ACC. ;D

Go with ACCholes. For some reason, I just like it, although it would be better to do that kind of thing if we had em in our own house. We'll save waving the dollar bills for when we play St. John's here.

We should all rattle around change in a tin cup during their foul shots. Imagine the cacophony!

As a BC basketball season ticket-holder, I had the pleasure of being solicited by an earnest BC student to make a contribution to the Flynn fund. His pitch started with: "Now that BC is entering the ACC, we will need more support". At this point, I interrupted and said I was a Georgetown alum who only had BC tickets to watch the Big East and that as far as I was concerned, "Now that BC is entering the ACC, it can rot and die". He politely indicated that he could understand my perspective and I congratulated him on the Continental Tire Bowl invite. Until the Davidson win, I thought my winter pleasure would be limited to these petty insults and taunting Yankee fans. Way to go Hoyas.
