The box score is linked below. Outside of Cook and Bowman, the rest of the team's numbers are a little disappointing for an opponent like Citadel (9-30 FG, 3-10 from three) And it looks like "Amadou Fall" has returned to the box score. Someone needs to tell the wire correspondent that Fall works for the Dallas Mavericks and is not Amadou Kilkenny-Diaw. www.usatoday.com/sports/scores104/104331/20041126NCAABGTOWN-----0.htm

Outside of the starters, few of the players received significant minutes. Although Roy may have been a tad sharper on Monday, he still managed to do well in his 12 minutes and continued to display a soft shooting stroke from the line.

Cook played well this evening and seems to fit into the 2 guard spot well and Wallace seems like a good fit at point. Ray and Tyler would make great shifts. Tonight's games showed a good outside game, which could open up the middle.
Brandon showed a nice outside game tonight. He is really suited well for a small forward slot. This would allow Green and Hibbert to start and bang inside. The odd man out would be Owens, who could be a great energizer off the bench. Green and Hibbert will need to get better with the quick passes back out. Hibbert draws an almost immediate double coverage these first two games, which must be leaving somebody open.
The downside with starting the two young big guys is who can come in behind them? Giabunda showed energy and and a feisty nature off the bench very late in the game. AKD and Dizzy are decent and are bodies. Dizzy may be another big small forward with his potential outside range.

Bowman had 15 points in the first ten minutes.
Hibbert was the highlight of the night. Not for the box score, just the fact that we were pounding the ball inside to him in the second half. In the first half we played similarly to the temple game...30 seconds of passing around the perimeter ending with a last second three pointer or a shot clock violation. In the second half we were pounding it in, or penetrating with Bowman or Owens and then dishing to Hibbert. Yes it's Citadel, and yes it's only two games into the year, but the future looks bright in the Hoya paint. So long as we continue to realize he's there.

From the box, Hibbert had a better night statistically per minute than versus Temple. Then again, the competition was much less.
Looks like he's a lot better than the locals thought.

I did not see the game but looking at the statistics the first thing that stands out to me is that we had 17 assists and no one had more than 3. Sounds like a Princeton-type offense with everyone involved. The second thing standing out is the number of 3's attemted and made: 12 for 28. Probably many of the assists were setting up 3's.

Easy ed, you touch on a good point. From what I observed, we were quite patient on offense and were willing to make an extra pass if someone was open for the three.

Easy ed, you touch on a good point. From what I observed, we were quite patient on offense and were willing to make an extra pass if someone was open for the three. I thought they played much worse last night than versus Temple. Sure they made the extra pass, made open 3's, and had loads of assists by everyone, but they're offense was essentially having 3/4 gaurds stand around the arc and pass it back and forth. They skipped it across, theyu passed it briskly around, but essentially there was no movement besides Green and/or Hibbert moving across the lane as an inside-outside option. The gaurds rarely, if ever, moved on many pssesions and seemed to be bolted to the floor. While I can commend the extra passing (one Owens pump fake and dish to a Bowman 3 point swoosh was especially well down), if they played offense versus any Big East team they would never score. They're much strongr and quicker and will be able to get to these passes. You rarely saw any of the guards cut, come off screens, etc. Just a lot of standing around outside. Temple woulda murdered them by 40! I'm pleased with the win, but despite the good shooting and passing, this was not a truly good offensive effort. I hope JT3 reminds 'em of it. If they want more open shots like last night, they better be ready to work for them.

I think we played reasonably well last night. I like the fact that we're not afraid to take 3 pointers now. It did eventually open things up for drives and post play.
Of note- and I think we'll see this a lot over the course of the year- anyone we have inside gets double and triple teamed instantly. If that's the case, we should work it for the open 3. That's what we should be doing.
We did drive to the hoop much more as the game went on.
Hibbert played well, I thought. Rebounded with some meanness.
Green needs to show the aggressiveness he showed during the summer, I saw him be much more beastly then. He did pass much better than previously.
I like having Ashanti and BB on the wings- they seemingly did not miss in that role.
Rebounding and D will be a problem in the future if we do not learn to cover for each other better. Roy was trying but found himself out of position a lot.
We should look to steal the ball as much as last night, because offense may not come easy in the beginning of the season.

I'm glad we worked on pounding it in to Roy in the 2nd half. I though after our fast getaway in the first half, the second half could be a teaching experience. We do have to get everyone involved, because the good BB won't always show, and he and Cook, while integral to the offense, cannot be relied on completely. I agree that we should work on finding the open man, when they double up in the paint. I don't know if the Citadel couldn't shoot or if our defense was that good, but holding a team under 25% sounds good.

I think JT3 started to try out new things with about 5-10 minutes to go in the first half.
