Here's how the game will likely go:
1. Reynolds will hoist crappy, ill advised shots--he'll have a streak where he hits 2/3 straight and everyone will talk as if this is greatest performance ever.
2. Reynolds will overpenetrate, lose the ball or get his crap thrown back in his face
3. Reynolds will run into the defender and want a foul call. How a team so reliant on jumpshots gets to the line so much is beyond me? It's not the defense's fault that Nova jacks up shots from deep or Reynolds runs into opposing players--I credit him for doing so if they are always going to call it on defender--but it was pathetic. Stay on 3pt shooters--if Nova drives--never come down to help--stay at home and force them to attack rim and shoot inside the arc--it's a much easier game against them if you don't fall for their draw/kick game.
4. Nova will hoist some stupid 3's--some will fall and others will keep you in game or allow you opportunity to extend lead depending on the score of game.
5. Hoyas have NO EXCUSE to not win this game. Nova is a good team--they are also the type of team that a team preparing to do anything in Postseason beats--and this game should be by double digits IF Nardi isn't in to help handle the ball. Reynolds is not a good PG--he's a poor passer--doesn't set up teammates well and looks/hoists ill advised shots.
GU has no excuses other than to the nervous nellies who think we should forfeit the dang game due to Nova playing us "tough". Did you guys ever think--IF Hoyas had played a C- level game, they would have SWEPT Nova this year instead of splitting or does that thinking only count against GU? Nova is a decent team that has tough competitors and is perimeter based--if you own the glass--the game is won--and no reason for Roy to be in foul trouble again and no reason to get whipped on glass by a team jacking up 3's all game. Take the game to them and get after it!

I was reading the Nova Rivals board and I love the evolution of the Georgetown conversation - let's just say we've heard it before:
1. We play Georgetown next. I'm really excited - we'll probably beat them and get a marquee win "Hibbard" and Green aren't really that good. 2. Well "Hibbard" and Green are good but we'll match up well with them and take them out. Insert other random argument about how the pace favors them. 3. Well, we have [insert excuse about player being hurt/sick]. Maybe we won't win. 4. Holy Crap, we could lose this game. 5. No we won't lose it. [Insert 3 pages of rationalizing about how not being able to bring your A game against a Top 10 team means nothing and they will still win].
I'd love to introduce these people to the fans of Marquette and Pitt.

Random thought -- if Nova has a pressing style, is down their senior PG and we're worried about being ready to play at noon, how about we throw a full court press on them from the beginning, move into our man to man defense and then into the 2-3 matchup zone. I say we get aggressive, take the press to them and then we really DO make fatigue a factor and our guys are playing hard from the get go!!!
Go Hoyas!!!!

IMO, the biggest key is starting off well. i've seen it too many times in this tournament when one of the teams in the first game of the day misses the 12pm wake up call and are down big early in the game. we need to come out with lots of energy and jump on them early. if we do that and get nova to play on their heels early, we win going away. we don't and it will be a gut wrencher like the first 2 games. the guards have to play well.
the first 5 minutes will tell the story of this game IMO. GO HOYAS!!!!!

Pull Hibbert away from the basket early and throw Villanova's defense off as a result. If he has a good look he should take a shot (or be instructed too). Other Gtown players can drive the to the hoop as well if Hibbert is near the free throw line drawing his defender(s) out there with him. Hit Villanova first in the interior. When Hibbert does not get the ball and does not get any fg attempts for long stretches it allows the other team's opposing interior players to stay out of foul trouble and get Hibbert himself in foul trouble. Stop letting this happen.
Make shots.

That's it in a nutshell. Villanova is going to give us every opportunity to beat them from the perimeter. If we can play inside out and bury wide open looks we'll win by 10.

I just love that Nova and its fans are really confident about this game, it will just make the double-digit win all the more the sweet. I am with RDF, I think we are way overrating Nova because they happened to play us "tough." They beat us once at home because we basically slept walked through the game. The road game was a typical road game in the Big East. After all, we didnt look that sharp against Cincinnati either, but I wouldnt say they played us tough. Everything about Nova's ability against us is based off of a crappy game we played in the beginning of the season.

Villanova's whole game on offense is to crash the boards, get fouled, and make free throws. It's no coincidence that Dante Cunningham draws free throws at the highest rate on their team and that he is their most productive offensive rebounder. We need to own the defensive backboards to dominate this game, but that's easier said than done.

We are probably overhyping Nova and probably underhyping Louisville and, as much as it pains me to say it, ND & WVU. (Even though the latter two turned in some very underwhelming performances away from home this season.) That said, Nova was one of only three teams to beat us this year and it's a shame we have to play them in our opening round.

Yeh, it is unfortunate to play Nova in the first round, but as others have said, there will certainly be no excuse for not being motivated for them. I wouldnt have been surprised to see us much more flat against DePaul. I think this is who they wanted to play. Bring on Syracuse tomorrow !

I'm with everyone on the double-digit win today, but lets not totally undersell Nova. They didn't just give us trouble at Verizon Center. They took a double-digit lead in the first half at their place, and to be perfectly honest, if Jessie Sapp doesn't drill that amazing shot to end the half, we may very well have gone 0-2 against the Wildcats. So I'd say that they have shown TWICE an ability to give us trouble that few other teams have demonstrated.
That said, I think we'll be able to get Roy involved this time, that both Jessie and DaJuan will rediscover their shooting touch today, and the Hoyas will walk away with a 10-point victory. Might be close for the first half or first 30 minutes, but I'm confident that the Big East regular season champions can pull this one out.

This game is going to be tough UNLESS, we can cut down our turnovers in the first 5 minutes. This has been a chronic problem. We have seen Villanova twice now and should have some sense how and where to pass the ball. Got to make Sumpter defend. Get him in foul troulbe and it is over.
