The Big East just gets killed with the crappy teams at the back of the conference. That said, look for the monster to be back next year...all of the young teams plus the ridiculous recruits coming in next year (GTown, 'Nova, etc...) will make for an incredible conference.
I'm shocked the poll has the Big Ten in it. With the exception of its top two teams, that conference is just awful (including MSU). I'm just glad the poll left out the SEC, which will get 0 teams out of its western division.

This poll is ridiculous. A quick look at ESPN's Bubble Watch page--one of the few saving graces of the Worldwide Leader these days--illustrates as much. The Big Ten has TWO locks for the tourney, and 2 others (MSU & Ind.) that "should be in". The BE has 5 locks, plus 2 more, for a total of 7. The Big 12 is also a joke, with only 3 teams that will make the tournament (barring a good run by OSU or Texas Tech in the conference tourney). I realize that the Big East has a lot more teams than these other conferences, but when the disparities are this great, it doesn't matter. Both the Big 12 and the Big 10 have some sorry teams at the bottom of their conferences as well. The fact is a team in the Big East will play 4 or 5 ranked opponents in conference play, sometimes twice. A team in the Big 10 or Big 12 will face 1 or 2 (depending on whether or not that team is itself ranked).
And I won't say the SEC is good, but they have a claim to be listed there as much as the Big 10 or Big 12. They've got 2 ranked teams and 4 guaranteed tournament teams.

According to Ken Pom, the SEC has the #2 RPI, only two thousandths of a point lower than the ACC. It seems that despite their western members, the SEC has managed to play its way into respectability. It kind of surprised me to see that the Big 12 was #7 in rpi (behind the 5 other power conferences and the Missouri Valley) and that their median rpi was 70 (no other power conference has a median team rpi higher than the Big East's 59). In the end, the SEC has a pretty legitimate gripe that they aren't up there while the Big 12 is.

Correct me if I'm wrong ExcitableBoy, but if the Big 12 is behind 6 Power Conferences and the Missouri Valley, wouldn't that put them in 8th?

The true measure is going to be the tourney and with the youth in the ACC, my prediction is they come up donuts in the Final Four. UVA is a first round upset along with Va. Tech, UNC is nosediving, Duke just isn't that good, UMD isn't a final four squad, G. Tech & Clemson probably won't get in, who am I missing?

If you really forgot, then I'll tell you. But on the off chance that you didn't forget, and were just taking a shot at them by preteding that they are dead to you, I say congratulations. Well played.

(And by "6 power conferences", of course, I mean "5 other power conferences" - edited to reflect this.)

These things clearly are cyclical. As we all know, the BE lost many excellent players to graduation/NBA last year. Many teams are relatively young. Next year, I fully expect the BE to be top 2, with GU leading the way. I truly hope our record is as good, if not better. My, have expectations changed!

Agree with most of the above...to answer the poll question, IMO the PAC-10 has been the strongest, most competitive conference all year.
