This is by far the most ridiculous discussion I have ever seen. We control our own destiny and have a HUGE game on Saturday. Why is this relevant? Why don't we discuss DaJuan's 'stache or the fact that Rivers hair is out of control. who. cares? You've honestly never in your life seen a more rediculous discussion than this?? Hyberbole much? Point taken on the discussion of UConn though, that's why there is a thread tacked to the top of the page.

Every topic that concerns Georgetown basketball is of interest to us. If that includes the presence, style and quantity of undergarments worn by Hoyas during game play, so be it.
Question: Do you think those players who play with a t-shirt under their uni also practice with a t-shirt under their practice jersey? Explain your reasoning.

I say yes, for comfort level reasons.. however, I have seen guys like Kobe and Josh Howard wear t-shirts under their practice jerseys quite a bit and never really wear them in a game, so it could be the reverse of that

when i played hs hoops i wore a cut off undershirt (a la allen iverson) and i did it because of the stiching of the jersey would itch my skin. the undershirt solved that problem. not sure if it is the same thing here but i would think it is considering the numbers and letters are sewn on to the authentic jerseys that the hoyas wear.

Well, as far as Ewing's T-shirt wearing went, the story goes that back when he was playing HS ball for Mike Jarvis in Cambridge, he used to have to play in unheated gyms a lot. Hence the T-shirt for comfort.

Roy's wearing a t-shirt may actually work to his advantage. When he puts his arms up, he has a few extra inches of fabric to block out a driving/shooting player's vision. Kind of like a bat spreading his wings.
Every inch counts...and Roy is Batman.

Roy does it because he has sensitive nipples. this was probably meant as a joke but it actually could be close to the truth. In high school a lot of my friends on the cross country team would tape their nipples because the jersey would irritate them and they would bleed. I don't know about the basketball team since I wasn't on it but it seems like it could be a reason. Then again I doubt Roy runs a 5K total during a game so maybe not. whatever.

Just going up and down the court of an average Hoyas game, someone playing 40 minutes would run close to 11,000 feet. Roy doesn't play 40 minutes, but also moves some during each possession.

It's the CNN/ESPN phenomenon, Velvet: most of us are spending WAY more time on this Board than we usually do, plus we have lots of new members and other contributors. We can't talk directly about hoops all the time: it gets duplicative, and for the most part, our discussions are either exhaustive, a poster provides a link to a discussion or data set (e.g. CO Hoya's site) that explains it all, we get bored, or going into further detail doesn't add anthing. So, we worry about other stuff. In ESPN's case, it's Page 2: tangentially related to the game, fun to read, based more in commentary than fact. For CNN, it's any number of programs or stories that focus on an aspect of life which may or not qualify (and in my mind, mostly doesn't) as coverage worthy of a station dedicated to nothing but news. It just happens when you have that many people focused on one media outlet for that much of their day. HOYATALK: More Hoyas get their news here than from any other source. That said, I wouldn't do the undershirt thing under my jersey in hoops (I did when I played football ... those pads chafe) but more power to the guys that like to. Roy would look a lot more badass if he got rid of his though. Baby Doc's is really baggy on him. DaJuan's stache is the balls and Rivers' hair is great - he's the only guy on the team with long hair (although I would LOVE to see Jeff wear the hair he wore frosh year). This is by far the most ridiculous discussion I have ever seen. We control our own destiny and have a HUGE game on Saturday. Why is this relevant? Why don't we discuss DaJuan's 'stache or the fact that Rivers hair is out of control. who. cares?

as a major contributor to two of the most epic discussions on this here board (CD-BD and Spotsylvania vs Downtown DC) I can appreciate non-basketball related discussions. I wanted to razz the FNG.
I wore ear guards worn in wrestling with my hoops uniform. It was a tribute to the Steiner Brothers (Scott and Rick) of professional wrestling fame.

I would think man-boobs also are a big contributor to wearing t-shirts.

I would think man-boobs also are a big contributor to wearing t-shirts. But I don't belive Roy or Baby Doc would have a problem with their boobs. But what about when Roy goes pro? As far as I know, no one in the NBA wears shirts under the jersey during games; is there a rule against it? Even a guy like Ewing who wore it in college ditched the shirt in the pros.

Having run a few marathons I feel qualified to comment on this. I can't imagine people having a problem with nipple chafing for any distance less than 3 miles, and as SF points out, you wouldn't be able to do even that distance in a typical Georgetown game. Realistically unless you're wearing a cotton t-shirt, I couldn't see it being a problem for a distance less than 10 miles. This of course changes if conditions are sufficently cold, but I'm guessing the phonebooth (and any other arena for that matter) is plenty warm after running up and down the court for a couple of minutes. Chafing also seems to occur due to repitition of motion (ie, the same rubbing over and over again), which wouldn't be as common in basketball due to all the starting and stopping.

Perhaps we should talk to the man himself? Someone should leave a comment on his Facebook; maybe you'll get a response.

I'm pretty sure David Stern has banned undershirts, just as he banned the tights this year that had become so popular among players (Kobe, AI, Wade, ect) and instituted a dress code for before games.

T-Shirts aren't allowed. And that's why Ewing didn't wear one in the NBA--they specifically asked him what he thought about not being able to wear his "trademark" t-shirt in the NBA after in his post selection interview during the 1985 draft.
