FYI. They Hoyas will be on ESPN classic Saturday (tomorrow) night at 7:00. From ESPN.com:
"01/23/89, St. John'S Redman [sic] at Georgetown Hoyas"
Can some of those who fandom goes back further than mine tell me about this game? Should I set my TiVo?

I believe that was the game Deke set the NCAA single-game record for blocked shots, but I'm not positive.

Yes, it was the block party. I was there and it was incredible!
The student section maniacs had "Just Swat It" T-shirts and "Rejection Row" where they put up an outlined big hand (ala K's for strikeouts) for every block.

I got all excited until I realized I have the game on tape. One of the very first college games I recorded in fact. It was a Gtown blowout. Deke was blocking shots like crazy. This was the game where he introduced himself to the nation at large. The students were probably in danger of running out of hands for the Rejection Row board.

Hoyabasketball.com seems to have an er*or (why can't we write that word?). It lists the record for block shots as 1/2/1989, but according the game results, there was no game on 1/2. So assume the '3' of the 1/23 was left out.
