I think we'll beat WVU tomorrow, so that students and fans alike can go home happy and fall asleep with dreams of a snow day dancing in their heads . . . . Seriously, don't get my hopes up. Good D around the perimeter, take care of the basketball and send 'em packing. Go Hoyas!

Jeff's post is right on the money. When the big fella is getting his, good things happen.

i'm fairly nervous about this game for superstitious reasons. this year and last year we had 7 game win streaks but lost the 8th. And you know who broke both of those streaks? West Virginia. The second time they did it was in DC... Exactly one year ago Monday. Also to add to this, I just glanced at this in the file directory I keep all my old recaps in, but looks like this will be the third straight season we play WVU at MCI/Verizon on February 12th.

It looks like the Mountaineers are shaking in their mineshafts: www.wvgazette.com/section/Sports/2007021120Mountaineers visit red-hot Hoyas tonightWASHINGTON — It would be nice for West Virginia’s young basketball team if the Mountaineers had a few days to savor their biggest win yet. The truth is they had a few hours, if that. If there was a score in Saturday’s Big East play that was even remotely as surprising as West Virginia’s 70-65 upset of No. 2 UCLA it was this: Georgetown ripped No. 11 Marquette, 76-58. And a day after West Virginia’s win over the Bruins they were on their way to Washington to face those same red-hot Hoyas. “We can’t start feeling too good about this win,’’ West Virginia’s Frank Young said following WVU’s win over UCLA on Saturday. “We’ve got Georgetown on Monday and they’re as good as anybody.’’

Summers, Wallace, and Sapp will be key in this game. WV will try to double Roy and Jeff whenever they touch the ball so at least 2 of this trio will have to have a double digit game to balance the offense. I think Summers staying out of foul trouble will be key also. Hopefully he wont pick up a ton of charging fouls, but will pull up for the short jumper. The Hoyas weakness will be stopping the dribble drive to the basket by their guards. Rivers could be key sub to stop this.

Hoyas favored by 9 1/2. Yikes. Vegas has finally acknowledged that the Hoyas just don't like winning games by less than 10 points. Basically, the two choices for spreads are thus WVU by 0.5 or Hoyas by 9.5. I'm glad they picked the latter.

D the three. Their home/away record is a huge disparity and they just don't shoot it as well on the road which is typically. We D the three and we win by ten. This will be the toughest of our next three I think. We are playing the press better and I think we will win the Nova game by 10. No need to comment on the Nati.

This preview was pretty bad. Apparently Wallace isn't that good a shooter.

Just no letdowns!!!!! WVU gets hot they can stick with anyone. We need to be solid on the boards and run the O the way we can. If we do these things we should be able to win. I think like everyone else said get Roy and Jeff going early and often. GO HOYAS....Beat the CoonSkin Caps

Yeah, the preview mentioned about 20 times that Georgetown is a lot like WVU, except with a great frontline, but without WVU's 3-point shooting. (He also made several mentions of WVU's phenomenal "best in league" 3-point defense).
In-Conference stats...
3-pt %: GU - 40.9% WVU - 35.7%
3-pt % defense: GU - 29.6% WVU - 31.7%

The NOAA weather forecast calls for snow/wintry mix to begin falling after about 1am and continuing with a variety of snow/freezing rain/ice through Wednesday morning. Then it's supposed to get cold again through Friday. See www.weather.gov. This game scares me; ALL games against WVU scare me. We have not had good luck against the 1-3-1, and their perimeter shooting has always caused us trouble. Then there's the matter of their fans ... ugh I shudder when I think of last year. Then again, we're really, really hot right now, there's no Gansey or 'Nogle to worry about (not that their other guys aren't good, they just haven't shown me the consistent clutch play of those two). All I know is that I really, really want us to win this game. That puts us with 9 wins in the BEC going into our last 5, with a tough test at 'Nova on Saturday.

To make the trip worth while we planted Georgetown memorabilia in various sections around the arena. There is buttons, bumper stickers and pompoms hidden in section 32 (right behind one basket), section 55 (behind the other basket) and various other parts of the arena. Hopefully, we will have created enough bad voodoo for WVU that we can make Morgantown an easier place to play in the future. This is tremendous! I love me some voodoo. Nice work by the San Fran crowd!

Then there's the matter of their fans ... ugh I shudder when I think of last year. Seriously -- I have nightmares about being in MCI Center last year with that "Let's Goooooo Mountaineers" chant taking over the arena at the end of the game. We need to make sure to drown out their devil chants tonight. Then again, at least we don't have to go back to Morgantown. Bummer for them.

I have nightmares about trying to find the game televised at a bar, only to be forced by whatever nitwit was running ESPN full court to have to watch the end of the Notre Dame-DePaul women's game, which was punctuated by endless efforts to foul despite one team being down 15 or more points. I can't believe we're playing on a Monday without it being on Big Monday. Weird schedule.

This game scares me in that all games vs WVU scare me. Them and Villanova and ND seem to have this bizarre rivalry with us- you can never expect a win, throw away the records, and freaky things seem to happen. I'm scared like crazy of this game, especially since the guys just played a ton of minutes 1.5 days ago. Many stayed till midnight at the party. I hope we've not run out of luck!
