sports.espn.go.com/ncb/powerranking?season=2007&week=14"Quiet waltz through the soft part of the Big East schedule is masking the improvement in the Hoyas' play. Roy Hibbert's had two very big double-doubles in the last three outings. Hosting Marquette Saturday should turn up the volume."

I know power rankings are different than the tourney selection process, but in the same day espn claimed that the Hoyas are a #10 seed (based on tourney selection criteria) and that the Hoyas are a #4 seed (based on power rankings).
Seems like kind of a cop out to call us one of the sixteen best teams in the nation and then deny that we are in the top 36 teams in terms of NCAA qualifications.

I agree. The communication at ESPN doesn't appear to be that great. Maybe nobody can hear over Dickie V's constant screaming

That mock selection committee crap was not an ESPN event. The NCAA actually set it up, inviting members of the U.S. Basketball Writers Association to participate.

Interesting if you look at the individual votes and see who thought we were in
Jay Bilas ("the Hoyas are one of the most-improved and dangerous teams out there heading down the stretch)
Dicky V (In front of Duke)
Mark Shlabach
Howie Schwab

this mock selection is a JOKE. Lets see, Gtown is a 10 seed. Here are some teams that are ahead of us. BYU at 8, ND at 9, Southern Ill at 5, Duke at 4, Ket at 3, Nevada at 7, Marq at 2, tenn at 8, unlv at 9 stanford at 5, villanova at 6, BC at 7, alabama at 10, vady at 8, texas at 9, indiana at 5, usc at 4, fl st at 6, gonz at 7, va tech at 8, creigton at 9, air force at 5, az at 7.
What a freakin joke. Not one of these teams should be ceeded higher. I have a lot of respect for Bilas but no one else. what a joke. Terps don't make it.

Folks - Let's calm down about the mock tourney. It was based pretty much on current RPI rankings and not projections.
When they did it our RPI was probably 37 which makes us...wait for it...a technical #10 seed.
It's not like they put any real thought into it. SOmeone handed them the most recent RPI and they seeded accordingly.
We'll be fine...

this whole mock tourney / power 16 thing is a joke at this point anyway, just another poll (even though I enjoy reading all of them, can't help it)...
we all know how many things can change from now until the end of the season (with the tough stretch the Hoyas and countless other teams have coming up, in addition to conference tourneys). If the Hoyas play well and win these games against Marquette, Pitt, etc. and then play well in the B.E.T., they should be in line for a 3/4 seed, but if we lose a few, our seed gets knocked down to maybe 6/7...
the same can be said for some of these other teams that are part of the mock selection -- southern cal and arizona for instance (both of these teams are much better than nevada IMO, and are certainly on the level of Oregon, UK, and the Hoyas).. they are nowhere to be found in the top 16 right now, but if they play well for the remainder of the season, and one of them takes the pac-10 tourney, that team could very well be in line for a 3 seed
not to mention extremely solid mid-major teams like Southern Ill. who just missed out on this power 16, but I'm sure will be a factor soon enough, and already are in the eyes of the almighty committee anyway (seedings mean a lot and the committee has the power, so ultimately these ESPN goons have as much relevance we do when it comes to these rankings - but we already know that)
obvious comments for the most part, but my overall point is, this is the most crucial stretch of the season for 95% of the teams in the nation; and we only have a partial idea what these teams are made of and what position they will be in come march...
sorry about the cliche, but this really is where we find out what teams are made of... and trying to predict potential seedings now is an exercise in futility (and I think we will be quite a problem in the tourney no matter where we are seeded)

I actually read an article by Dana O'Neill (Nova beat writer for Phila Daily News) who had us as one of the last 4 in, while the Cats were safely ensconced as a 6. Please?
Their entire mock bracket was so devoid of actual thought as to be rendered worthless.
