Yes, we do. We need to prove we are the best team in DC. If we can't beat GW, then we don't deserve it. It could be an annual backyard grudge fest, and I'm sure a lot of fans would come out. This could be a great thing every year, just as the women play GW to start off every year.

Annually scheduling GW, UVA, and/or Maryland are absolute musts. Not saying everyone, every year, but they are some of the better OC opponents they'd find and GW is litterally minutes away. Heck, JT3 could have their warm up jog be the mile to GW!

They look solid this year and I think that Pops and the talent on that squad could be a tough loss for our squad this year. I still feel we need to play these teams each year even if it means losing a recruit due to the outcome of a single game.

Frankly, with George Mason added to the 4-team lineup of the BB&T Classic this year, I'd like to see that event become an 8-team invitational with 4 local hosts and 4 teams from outside (far outside) the Beltway.
How's that litigation about exempt tournaments working out, b/t/w?

How great would it be if DC had the college hoop version of the BeanPot Tourney for college hockey up here in Boston? It could be a three day, eight team tourney with some combination of GU, GW, AU, GMU, Howard, UMd, UVA, JMU, Catholic, Loyola-MD and anyone else interested. I'm sure organizers could find a 3 day stretch (or a Thursday, Saturday, Sunday or similar stretch) at MCI to appease everyone. Or have first round games at each school's home gyms and the final two rounds at MCI. Something. ANYTHING. They're sitting on a gold mine and ain't doin' nuthin' 'bout it.
GO HOYAS!!!

There's more to lose than to gain from playing GW, American, et al. I'm not saying I'm against it, but it doesn't further our interests. It will be their game of the year, it will help their RPI, it will get them a game at MCI. For us it does nothing really. I would prefer focusing on playin UMD semi-annually and UVA

I disagree with most of what you argue there, Chinatown. I think we have plenty to gain...
-- Improves our RPI (particularly compared to some of whom we've been playing lately)
-- Improves local press coverage
-- Improves local excitement about hoops (and our hoops in particular)
-- Improves attendance figures (and revenues) at MCI.

Agree on all points. Point 3 is very important. Why should we afraid of GW? Even if we lose, it's a good pre-season test for our team.

We should definitely be playing GW every season. It's such a natural rivalry its not even funny. Those GW kids are so jealous of us. It would be amazing to have both student bodies getting at each other and I think it would be an awesome experience. Plus, it would be great for the team.
We really do need to work on regular matchups with the DC Area teams. Between us, GW, and Maryland we've got a very nice base and then you add a school like Mason and it would be very interesting every season. Kind of like the Big 5 in Philly, we need something like that badly.

I agree that GW would be a nice addition, but I wouldn't say its a natural rivalry. It would be more like a one-sided rivalry like BC-ND football. That game is BC's game of the year and that's why they beat ND every year. Everybody from BC (a bit of an exaggeration) wanted to go to ND in the same way that everybody from GW wanted to go to Gtown (not as big an exaggeration). ND considers Michigan and USC rivals before they consider BC a rival. The 'Cuse, St. Johns, and Nova (maybe ND) are our rivals. Not GW.

I know that, Obviously those 3 Big East teams are the ones I would consider our biggest rivals, but GW is right down the street!!!! Thats definite rival material, even if we are almost always better than them.
