By next season? SURE! If we get the progression this year out of the team as a whole, and players like Green, Hibbert and WALLACE (yes, Wallace...who'll be our 2nd PG), and then our incomings Thornton, Spann and Edgerson (Egerson?) are able to contribute, I think we could make a decent run at those 8-12 seeds. Maybe better.... who knows?! A lot also depends on who stays and who goes conference-wide, of course.
GO HOYAS!!!

Possible breakdown of the new Big East, as of Fall '05
Top Teams:
UConn Pitt Louisville Cuse Cincinatti
Middle Teams:
Notre Dame Marquette Providence Nova DePaul Seton Hall
Lower Tier: Rutgers WVU St. John's South Florida
All we need to do is play our way out of the bottom tier, and we'll be in. In other words, we need to finish ahead of four of the following eight:
Rutgers WVU St. John's South Florida Providence Seton Hall DePaul Villanova
Not the easiest task, but finishing in the middle of this pack should definitely be accomplishable (if that's a word)...
This year's Small-Big East actually provides a great transition year for JTIII, as the Hoyas are guaranteed a BET berth, and hopefully will provide enough of a learning experience that next year's team can hit the ground running.

Our program also needs to make its way back to where we are one of those top tier programs year in & out. I know that is long term, but it all starts with this years teams effort.

I also think that we will find that Louisville and Cincy may struggle in their first year in the league. I think something can be said for playing solid competition in 14 of your 16 conference games as opposed to 8 out of 16. I could be proven wrong but I wouldn't be surprised to see one of the two finish at or below .500 in the first year.
