Check out item #3 of things to be excited about this college basketball season: www.hoopville.com/column/jones.asp?EntryID=10846Aw heck, for the link phobic, here's what the item says: Guess we haven't fallen off the radar at all. Admittedly, after playing at St. John's last year, I WISHED we'd fallen off the radar, but it's good to see there are still people all around the college hoops world that are paying attention and see an ascendant Hoya program as a good thing for college basketball.

I am not necessarily big on the commentary over on Hoopville, but this is nice to read. Everyone talks about Duke being good for basketball and so forth, and I always ask about GU, "Why not us?" Given our proud history, there is no reason, except facilities (and coaching, which seems to have been remedied), that makes me a pessimist. We must remember that GU is in one of the best city neighborhoods in America and one of the best cities in America, if not the most important.
Anyway, I hope to see more of this kind of story as the season rolls along.

Very nice read... although I am a bit skeptical of any guy that starts the column as a Staff Writer living in the Washington, DC area and finishes as a Senior Writer living in North Carolina. Must've taken a while to finish that bad boy...

That New Big East site impresses me more and more. They seem to have to local flavor to all schools- check out all the little tidbits in their reviw of us- nd good writing to boot.
I agree basically with their assessment.

This guy wrote not only that Ashanti was the team's best overall player but that he was also the Hoya's lone scoring threat. That was enough to tell me his opinions aren't worth jack.

Yeah, that New Big East website preview is impressive. Its the first one Ive read that was actually worth the time and was written by someone with knowledge about the program. He must either follow the team very closely or just have good sources because he really sounded like he knew what he was talking about. It was written like a Georgetown fan would write it and that was impressive. It's refreshing to read a preview in which the author actually knows what they are writing about, not just reading off a stat sheet and listing the 2 freshmen that were ranked in high school.

Ok, well I'm pretty much sure I know who wrote that article and it all makes sense now. It was a really great read and its nice that one of our own was given the opportunity to write that and finally get a good Georgetown preview out there. It's probably the only one available that is even worth reading. Nice work!

I could tell just by reading that particular report from the New Big East site that the writer was someone who either posted on these Hoya forums or spent quite a bit of time reading the forums.

Hahahaha, yeah the shootaround with Jersey opened my eyes as to who the mystery author was. Then I realized that I recognized that first name of our fellow board member.

Interesting to see a fairly positive preview of us for once. Definitely written with the hopeful optimism of a fan, haha. And while I wish he were a little more critical of us, he definitely knew what he was talking about.

Why would you want him to be more critical? There have been plenty of very negative previews already and I dont think there's a need for any more. I think he was cautiously optimistic in the preview and thats a good way to go.

Nah, I'm just saying he seems to be viewing us with some pretty rose colored glasses right now, the cautious optimism you're talking about. With I appreciate that and hold the same view, a little constructive criticism would have been nice, too, on what we still can do better as a team and program.
