love the BB quotes: ""I guess I'd say I'm learning how to play basketball -- not the skills, not the basics, but I'm learning how to play with my teammates," said Bowman, who averaged 15.9 points and 8.1 rebounds last season. "I guess the way I feel about learning so far is that I'm open about it. I'm open to everything the coach has to say, because I don't believe he's going to tell me things that will steer me or my teammates in the wrong direction. I'm going to do whatever is necessary for the team.""
and
"Already, the players have heard Thompson repeat the same ideals over and over. Bowman rattles them off: "Work hard. Get better. Be precise. Be perfect on the court. And most important, play to win.'"

Great article. I love the stuff that JT III did in McDonough to bring the place up to snuff a little. All of it sounds extremely motivational and exciting. "PLAY TO WIN" By the way, does anyone know anything about this Joe Blow guy? He wasn't introduced at Midnight Madness and I hadn't heard anything about him before. ;D

11. Georgetown: The Hoyas need to compile as many victories as possible against a soft nonconference schedule, because the Big East slate likely will not be kind.
Yep, they're still sayin our OOC is soft. Can't they see a notable improvement?

Wait 'til next year: That mantra won't work for any team in this league this season. If you want to sneak up in the standings, do it this season. Next year, Louisville, Cincinnati, Marquette, DePaul and South Florida will join the conference, putting it nearly on par with the ACC.
I'm sorry... getting those teams will put us NEARLY on par with the ACC? I'd say it'd put us pretty damn close to WELL ABOVE par with the ACC. God I hate the ACC. And Duke. Who luckily is the worst ACC team in North Carolina this year.

That kind of stuff is just absurd. People are so in love with the acc propaganda machine that they can't even see reality anymore. A comment like that makes any true Big East fan's blood boil. Adding those teams to a conference that is already pretty much on par with the acc will undoubtedly put us above them.

I almost think our Commish should force his hand and arrange a ACC-BE challenge along the lines of what existed previously. I am tremendously confident that we'd win every year.

Let me respond to the last few posts:
No. And they don't care. The Post has been on auto-pilot when covering Gtown the last few years (for the most part) and nothing has changed from those jokers.
The Washington Post resides on what is essentially ACC country. I don't think the Post has even sent a columnist to cover the BE tourney since Iverson's last season. Meanwhile they send a columnist every year to the ACC tourney and that columnist stays the entire weekend regardless whether the Terps even get past the first round.
Get used to it, youngin'. This is simply business as usual for the Post.
The BE won championships? Doesn't matter at Postville where all the love goes to the BE's thieving neighbors of the south.

I was just going to say the same thing about the quote that the Big East with the addition of L'ville, Cincy, etc. will almost be on par with the ACC. Without them we are on par or have exceeded them (at least in the past two years). With them the ACC will be like the Big West compared to the BE.

Don't worry, people, the Big East will get its rightful due. Next year, ACC-loving jerks will get a hefty dose of reality and they realize top to bottom that we will be light years away from them.
Big East-ACC Challenge would make people to realize this, and force us to prove it yet again. Think of the possible revenue and the glamour matchups. We'll have to get a lot better before this happens, but a nostalgic Georgetown-North Carolina matchup, anyone? Duke-'Cuse, the showdown of all that is evil in this world? Notre Dame-Wake Forest? Providence-NC State, even? This would be unbelievable for college basketball as a whole. Commissioners better get on this.
As far as the "top to bottom" assessment of the conference, hopefully Georgetown will be closer to the top than to the bottom. That's my only concern, because based on our performance the last few years, especially last year, we could be nothing more than a perennial joke dwelling in the cellar with South Florida.
But no, I refuse to accept that, and neither will JT III. We start turning it around for us this year, just wait and see, Washington Post media. 10 days to Temple.

Anyone else out there enthused about "Play to Win"?
Look, the guys will have to play well and prove people wrong to be noticed again. No ESPN or network appearances. Picked 11th.
Good time to plug the road trips to see our Hoyas play.
Look, they will struggle at first. My first day on most jobs was a learning process.
But in the end these guys will be playing pretty good ball.

I like all of it.
I like that Brandon, from his quotes, seems to be working harder than ever before. He seems to be doing something he's never done.
I like that the expectation is to be perfect.
I like "precision." I like the idea that they should be improving, not merely staying warm.
I know these things sound obvious, but I don't think Esh did them.
I love the fact that it has been a month, and these mantras are full engrained.
