now don't get me wrong, I love this board as much as anyone - but what's the deal with moving the Sweetney update thread off this board? As if it wasn't dead enough anyway - you've got to move threads OFF the board? We're struggling for life on this board as it is!!!
And second - isn't this HOYATALK? can't we TALK ABOUT HOYAS on this board? I think the Sweetney thread belongs here. He is a hoya. Now, maybe a Paul Pierce thread could go on this new pro sports board, but I believe that any thread about a Hoya should stay here.
So in summary: 1. Mistake ADDING a new board, when this board hardly has more than 10 new posts in a day. 2. Please consider keeping threads about hoyas in the nba here, since after all, they are hoyas, and this board is called "hoyatalk".

I agree with aussie regarding former Hoyas. Its different if its just random pro sports talk that has no connection to Georgetown Basketball, but when it's providing updates on a former Georgetown Basketball players I think it is very relevant to this board. This is supposed to be a Georgetown Basketball talk board and I will always consider former players to still be a part of the program and will want to hear about them.
I don't understand why the Brendam Gaughan thread is still on here if you are trying to get rid of non Georgetown Basketball talk. I am all for that thread staying on this board since he is a former player, I just think that threads about other former Hoyas should be on here as well.

Aussie and GUHoya2007:
I think the Pro Sports board is a good idea. Yes, this is HOYATalk, but that encompasses all the boards. Admin (and WBH and I) have gotten requests, both now and in the past, to keep the discussion of the NCAA basketball board on topic. Of course we're all interested in former Hoyas in the NBA and NASCAR (I moved the Gaughan stuff to the Pro Sports board just now - good pickup), but this particular board is primarily for discussion about the current program. Admin can chime in about rationale if he likes, but that was my understanding. I can see the argument re: former Hoyas in the NBA and we may need to rethink that one.
The issue is that too many OffT threads push OnT threads that often are interesting off the first page too fast - people who don't visit the page every half hour have complained about missing them. Most people don't go much farther than the first page on a regular basis.
As for traffic, it will pick up as soon as the games start and the less OT stuff there is, the easier the board will be for all to follow.

I have to agree with Aussie. Call it a convenience factor – or I am simply lazy, but I have HoyaTalk bookmarked b/c I want to hear news about Hoya basketball. Does that include news about Sweetney, yes! The Wizards, no! It seems pretty simple. I for one don’t check the board every 30 minutes, but when I do check it I like to know if there is news about Sweetney.

Yeah, I think we really needed a pro sports board because people want to discuss pro sports that have no connection to GU at times, for example showcase just started a thread about Wannstedt's firing, or all the Red Sox talk a few weeks ago. However, I'm still in favor of news about former Georgetown Basketball players being on the Hoyatalk board.

Well, if it helps at all, Aussie, I'm not sure if your post can take credit for starting it, but it seems like today has seen well over 100 posts.

I have to say that while I understand the motivation behind creating a Pro Sports board, in my humble opinion, the Admin should rethink moving a thread, such as that concerning Sweetney, away from HoyaTalk.
I think that the vast majority of people on this board consider discussions about past Hoyas in the NBA as directly pertaining to Hoya basketball. It is not as though the board is going to get flooded by these posts. Perhaps there could be an official thread that floats near the top designated for talk about Sweets, 'Zo and other Hoyas in the NBA and abroad.
I understand if the Admin decides to stand by the decision, however I would like to see what the general opinon is on this board.
GO HOYAS!!!

I agree with the consensus that this is a terrible move. Everyone is excited about following Mike's progress, and Sweetney is as much Hoya basketball as any other topic out there. Even if its laziness or convenience for boardmembers, I wish the Admin would move the Sweetney update thread back onto Hoyatalk.

Another vote for keeping post about former Hoyas who are now pros on this board. I'm not a huge NBA fan and will probably rarely bother checking the pro sports board, but I do like hearing updates about former Hoyas.

I'm with Fan of the Game too. Why bother having a board if you can't talk about one of the best players for the team in the last 10 years?!? Last time I checked the title of the board is HoyaTalk...and last time I checked Sweets was and always will be a Hoya.
No offense, but I'd rather talk about Sweets than another recruit we didn't get.

I think the simple rule of thumb should be why are we talking about the subject.
We don't talk about Sweets because he's a backup on the Knicks. We don't talk about Brendan because we're huge NASCAR fans.
We talk about them because they are Hoyas. I'm with the above, although the pro sports board is a good idea, I guess, because of the anti-Red Sox backlash.

I agree that perhaps that a thread Sweets (or any other current Hoya in the NBA) should probably be accepted by most everyone who comes to the HoyaTalk board, but on the other hand those individual threads for each game Sweetney played (nevermind his birthday) were . . . um . . . a bit gratuitous.
I suggest that we wait and see how things play out as the season gets under way; at that point we'll have a better idea of what the front page turnover will be like. If there's clearly room for a Sweentey thread, then bring it back (or allow a new one to start); but lets confine it to a thread or two.
Just my $.02.

I had already confined it to a single thread prior to it being moved. Sorry for the multiple threads at one point.

Call me the bad guy...but I see no problem with moving the "update" thread.
Mike's a pro now, and discussion of his games belongs with the discourse on other pro sports topics. Yes, he's a Hoya, but, if he wasn't, there wouldn't be a "Mike Sweetney Update" thread on any board at HoyaTalk. Are we going to add the "Allen Iverson Update" thread? Or the "Jahidi White Update" thread? What about the "Kevin Braswell/Victor Samnick/Gerald Riley Overseas Update" thread? I think, if people want updates on how guys are doing in the pros, they can easily check out a boxscore in the paper or at ESPN.com. People complained in the past about NFL talk and Boston Red Sox talk, and now there's a place for discussion on those topics. There's nothing wrong with drawing a line (a faint one at that) between current and former Hoya discussion.
Also, people lookng for the updates will now go to the Pro Sports board, and might contribute to the topics they find there, adding to the discussions. SO there really isn't anything wrong with it in my mind.

Posts devoted to self-congratulations among "All Americans" and "Starters" are HoyaTalk worthy, but Mike Sweetney posts are not. Not sure I understand the logic of that.

Haha, I think they are both worthy. Those threads are hilarious, but you certainly have a point that if those are Hoyatalk material then updates on former players should be as well.
