Yup. Me too. Briefly though about grabbing some scalped tix, but then thought--I'm gonna buy scalped tix to a HS game??

Dematha wins by 7, from what I hear. I was NOT there, so I do not know details on our recruits. However, I did get a phone call & was told Dematha won by 7 & never trailed.

I got the last two tickets and lucked out. Austin and Chris both looked unstoppable. Chris has a nose for driving to the hoop and can hit a shot from anywhere, even when he's practically horizontal falling to the ground. Austin was looking good and hitting shots as well. He's wearing an ankle brace but it didn't seem to be slowing him down or keeping him from alley-oops. Braswell actually got in the game and got some solid minutes, I think his first game this season. He looked very hesitant and only made one or two shots, but that's to be expected with having not played. When Chris doesn't have to be the only threat on a team he's going to be a force. I can see him coming off the bench freshman year and hitting some very clutch shots

I got stuck outside for a good portion of the first half while the gym was "filled to capacity." Agree with krey about Austin and Chris... both had ridiculous three point shots. Also was particularly impressed with Wright's ball handling and some sick passes.
Also, Jessie and Macklin were at the game and made appearances near the court during halftime. JTIII was there too.

Same deal with me, entering with about 5 min left in the half. When I sat down and started pointing out Austin/Wright/Braswell, the guy to my left turned and said "Freeman's been dominant so far--he is the truth". I enjoyed the alley oop to him that I saw on a fast break and when he and Wright exchanged NBA range threes. Wright also looked really good, but he had no help at all, except for the Mason guy. Chris Braswell had trouble finishing, but he did a great job of rebounding / getting position.

Molodeaveu is gonna be great for Mason. GREAT pickup.
Random thoughts...y'all can read the Post's recap for what happenned.
1. Austin Freeman was 3 notches above everyone else in the gym. Chris Wright was great himself, but Freeman was quite litterally unstoppable when he wanted to score.
2. Key word from #1: "wanted"
Freeman kept disappearing. The scouting reports were dead on when it says he lets the game come to him--much like Jeff--when he wants to step up, there's really nothing the opposition can do to stop him, but time after time I kept scratchign my head as to why Austin wouldn't demand the ball a la Wright and Molodoveu for St. John's would.
3. Mike Jones is a Edited poor game coach. Does he do anything besides recruit these guys to Dematha? Cripes it has only gotten worse since Wooten's days. No wonder Dematha always has trouble with Gonzaga--Gonzaga NEVER has as good of talent, anywhere near the size, and as great as athletes, yet their fundementals and actual coaching allow them to constantly stay close with Dematha.
Hey, maybe I'm an idiot, but when your offensive scheme apparently revolves around letting each one of your "stars" get their basketb, then moving on to the next, and the next, etc. with random Freeman splashes, you need to seriously think about change. Honestly, Jerai Grant would come in and it was Jerai Grant's turn to shoot, then Isiah Tate would get a few 3's, then Peterson would be allowed to create, then Braswell would fumble the ball a few times, and finally, Freeman would make his layup and 3 and the cycle would continue. It was maddening. SJC wasn't playing THAT good of perimeter defense on Freeman for him to go such long stretches without touching the ball.
As long as Mike Jones can keep his fellas out of trouble, he'll be just as successful as Morgan wins-wise.
4. Freeman is a seriously big dude. Think Egerson big with a helluva jumpshot.
5. Watching Freeman in warmups a few guys were commenting that not only was he routinely making 7,8, 9, 10 in a row, the ball never touched anything but nylon. If anything, he was using the rim as the backboard on these jumpers. Great, great shooter.
6. Chris Wright is kinda tiny, but really fast and really strong. The comparisons to Jason Williams are pretty dead on. Whether it was due to his team's scheme or not, he was in attack mode at all times which I really liked, whereas Austin kinda floated around. Wright was definitely the most fired up player on the court as well which was great to see.
7. Did I mention that when Austin Freeman wanted to score there was litterally nothing that was going to stop him?
8. Freeman opening the game with an alley oop was great. Chris Wright missed his own attempt soon after but it was cool to see all the smiles on the court. Definitely the two best lil guy leapers since D. Hunter. Maybe better.
9. Jerai Grant is a skinny fella. Hit the weight room man. I'd love to play Clemson in the future with him down low.
10. Chris Braswell is a lot closer to Macklin than he is Summers or Green.

Fellas, or ladies...if the game is at 6:30 in the WCAC like DeMatha vs St. Johns you got to get there like 5:00 seriously...now if freshmen and JV playing get there during freshman game I'm telling you...crowds like you never seen before for high school basketball "regular" season games...it's a blast...don't sleep on these high school games out here in DC, MD VA...

It's true I got there at 6:10 and finding a seat wasnt exactly a picnic.
Random Thought #11: I walked in talking to Coach Broadus and Jessie Sapp. Both were pretty pumped to be there. Sapp said he knew both Wright and Freeman well having played with/against them often in HS. Macklin showed up soon after.
EDIT:
12. Both student sections were good, minus the Stag students taunting the foreign SJC players with the national anthem and USA! chants during free throws. Kinda lame. First of all, pick a different song than the National Anthem/America the Beautiful for that kind of thing, and secondly....yeesh, just yeesh...I don't want to be hypocritical and say it was in super poor taste because my high school used to do it to an international school, but that was towards an entire rival school, not just one guy...it just didn't come off too well, espcially when they used the national anthem....the "atkins!" cheer for St. John's Refridgerator Perry lookalike was pretty great, however.

they should play the febuary second game at the vverizon center so everyone can get in. It is absolutely cost-prohibitive to play a single HS basketball game at Verizon. It costs upwards of $75K just to turn the lights on, and if you plan on charging the going rate for a HS game, you can't even cover costs. Look for this game to be played at Catholic, AU, GW, or Mason (best bet is Mason with Vlad heading there).

Back when I went to a WCAC school it was mainly at Catholic and AU that we played all the big games but maybe that has changed.
