Would it have been too much to ask to have him come out and take a few pull-back j's as part of the halftime show??

I couldn't make the game tonight, but Ashanti is my favorite player of the last few years. He played with such joy, and I sat behind his family on senior day. They were so proud.

I love Ashanti as well. A bunch of us met his family at the tournament last year. They were so cute. They even came to the Hoop Club after-party in Dayton.

Back to the game. Did we zone a lot tonight?
I'm still concerned about Summers/Egerson. Egerson pretty much does everything better than Dajuan but shoot. But oh can Dajuan shoot. We just have to have him out there on the offensive end.
But that means we have to accomodate his D. Maybe zone press and trap to use his athleticism, maybe drop back into a zone when he's on the floor, I don't know. It just seems like halfcourt D and Summers get along about as well as though zany Lockhorns. Just want to know how we're trying to get around the problem.

I usually enjoy Camille's write-ups, but this article is more of a puff piece on Gary Neal than a recap of tonight's game. Is the Post trying to expand readership in Baltimore?

Agreed - meeting Ashanti's family at the HHC event and hearing them discuss his dunk in the game against NIU was one of my favorite moments as a student fan.

A good point from Camille's writeup:
True, we've been playing bad teams lately, but we were playing bad teams at the beginning of the year, as well (Hartford, and we should ALWAYS outclass ODU, etc...). In the early games when Roy and Jeff weren't performing, we were in big trouble. While Jeff's performance wasn't bad tonight, he wasn't a force, and Roy was (as he is oftentimes this season) impotent against a smaller team. What we see now, though, is that the rest of team is willing and able to step up; this is manifest and significant improvement for the Hoyas. Michigan will be a very interesting game to test this newest phase of the 06-07 Hoyas...look for the team to be much better and more consistent than it was in our last few tests (Ducks/Dook). This big improvement should continue throughout the rest of the schedule. No matter how the season has gone so far, one thing is clear: the Hoyas from November will be unrecognizable to the Hoyas in March.

its good to see us breaking open some of these cupcake games. though i wish all of our guards were healthy over this first part of the season to spell Sapp/Wallace a bit more. no reason wallace should be playing 31 minutes in this game. we still have a lot of question marks, but i think some of them have been answered: who asserts themselves when roy/jeff are off? summers, wallace, crawford. who can shoot the 3? summers, wallace, crawford. who shouldnt take more than 2 threes per game? sapp, egerson, green. can we play defense against good teams? undecided. can we cut down on turnovers? i think this is our biggest issue right now. looking at SF's stats on the increase in turnovers is troubling. the good thing is that turnovers are one of those stats that will go down as the team gets more experience with each other. however, it hasnt happened yet.
summers is a stud... but whoever said that he looks like he's thinking about his last shot while on defense could be right. defense is all about wanting it, and i think that if the staff can convince him to give his all on every defensive play, he will be a lottery pick in the near future.

Egerson needs some arc on that shot of his. I think if he can round out that jumper, he'll be fine. I love Summers' game -- his offense looks smooth and effortless, and he has great form on his 3-point stroke. Yes, he still has a lot to work on, in terms of better D and passing, but I can remember when Reggie Williams, David Wingate, et al, looked like out of control freshmen, too. Summers looks like a PLAYER to me, and I don't think this will be the last game this year he puts up great numbers.

too many turnovers again. on the season we have 161 assists and 157 turnovers. not a very good ratio at all.
summers....has 3 assists all year...and 22...yes 22 turnovers.

Roy was (as he is oftentimes this season) impotent against a smaller team. How dare you call Roy impotent!

After the Duke game, I noted that we had demonstrated that -- though we were presently, usually, playing like the "2nd half Duke" team -- we had the potential to be the "1st half Duke" team as the season unfolded (the highlights being the assist/FG and the FG%, courtesy of some slick quick passing to the cutter).
But in a way, a "third" team has emerged...a low-intensity Roy/Jeff combo with several of the others making key contributions (the highlights being a bunch of 3's and much overall scoring from good J's).
Add the "1st half Duke" team to the "third" team...and we got ourselves a winnah!
Increase the consistency and add a little more D (some simple aging might do the trick), and voila: What do you think you see?
I remain very optimistic about this Hoya season.

Roy had a big time exam hangover. When he gets mad though.... it's like a different person out there. If there was some way to bet on specific plays, true Hoya fans could make a killing. After one of his blocks, he got the fire in his eyes. I absolutely knew he would get the ball and put the ball in the basket. There was no doubt. And what happened? Our guards got him the ball (!) and he did just that even with several defenders in his face. We need to make him mad more often. That sequence was the most fired up I got the entire night, and I was pleading for him to get it the next time down too. He does this like once a game--and it's usually when he gets mauled picking up an offensive rebound (with no call) and swings the elbows to clear out space and in general growls like a rabid pit bull. Clearly the solution is for Roy to spend some time at the Harvey Thomas school of "by any means necessary".

Meh. They are winning at the half, at least. Sapp and DaJ are perfect from the 3 point line (6/6), but our few FTs have netted 0 points. Neal, OTOH, is playing as advertised. Anyway, we'll win. 10-3 is still the very doable goal. Uhmmmm......I hope you meant Jonathan & DaJuan were 6/6. Jessie had BY FAR his worst game of the year.

Yes, vegas...thanks for catching that. I was checking in at half-time and noting how well some our 3's were falling (plus some other quickie observations re the stats).
Perhaps I shouldn't do quickies. Post-alcohol dislexia and all that.
Now that I notice it, there sure are a lot of "J"'s on the team (JG, JW, JS, DaJ...even a "Jr"). H-H-H-Hibby and The J(et)s? Whatever. J-j-j-just keep winning, fellas. And keep hitting them J's.
