Yeah- we need TC back, first off. Second, our core is solid- we can depend on them and bring the other guys along slow, which it looks like we may have to do. BTW SF, I was referring to individual players getting it, not the team. Notice how the sophs look that much better now (see Sapp). I expect next year the freshmen will be diesel, but they're still learning the ropes of a complicated and disciplined system. Of course they are--they've only been practicing for a month now. SF's point is still true--a system that requires 1.5 years to learn when joining a veteran team is a system that is going to take too long to learn for the talent we're bringing in. If the freshman are still hamstrung by the system going into BE play then there's something wrong with our system. I don't think that's going to be the case b/c the learning curve should be shorter since everyone but the frosh know the system--as opposed to when JT3 came on, and needed 1.5 years to teach his system to the entire team

I still think this group of newcomers plays like they're in a burger game. They are at least on pace for getting it by end of this year- but expect III to lean on the experienced players more, especially now.

How the heck are the freshman playing like it's an All-Star game? Rivers has done almost nothing but make 5 foot passes, and Macklin hasn't taken any bad shots or made any bad passes. Summers has been a little jumpy, sure, but to say the "newcomers play like they're in a burger game" is simply not based in reality.

Macklin has played with restraint, true; but Summers has been more than a little jumpy. His passes and shot selection have been awful. His defense has been nonexistent.
PE2- I have no words. Shot selection? Huh?
Rivers has airballed or bricked every non-layin he's taken.
I have yet to see even a modicum of discipline or decisionmaking from them most of the time. What have you seen to justify time for anyone but Macklin?

i don't know about completely backing Macklin for more minutes just yet, but from what I've seen from Ewing so far, he's been atrocious. Granted he's insanely athletic, but the mental mistakes and inability to stay under control are just not something I'd expect from a junior. Not leaving your feet on shot fakes and avoiding fouling jump shooters are basic concepts that he should know regardless of what kind of offense we run. If Ewing can't grasp those ideas, then I'd have no problem giving Summers or Macklin more minutes.

Way too early here. These guys are all pretty much in the same place.
I hope they all can give us quality minutes in different roles by the end of the year. That's the point of getting them some now.

Ewing has to get his sea legs back. He's not played competitive ball in 2 years, practice and Kenner don't count. So let's give him a few more games before we count him out.

I think after last night's Fairfield game, we can pretty much declare this debate (at least the original question) over, no?
