It appears that Kevin Broadus is assistant #2, and I noticed that one of the newest members of the board is "Smith Center." Do "BM-GW" or any of the other GW posters have any insights for us on what Broadus brings to the table?

I was also hoping that some GW posters might provide some thoughts. I know BM-GW posts occasionally and I was wondering how he feels about us stealing their star local recruiter.

Though it hurts for us to see a great assistant coach go from us to a local rival, it is really hard for us to complain since we took him from American, and American took him from DCU (I think?). Maybe Maryland will take him from you guys. Also, being an A10 school you get used to coaches comming and going. Its not the BE where coaches are hired and say for the rest of their carrers. The A10 is the nations best coaching jumping stone, coaches come make a big splash and then move on. Some stay like Chaney and Matta but most move on. I don't think he would have been close to being to next to take over after Hobbs goes in 4 or 5 years, so it is probably a good move for him if he wants a head coaching job one day.
Anyhow, I think GW will be fine and still be very strong next year, though it will be hard when we are going after the same local player. He has been credited with a lot of the top prospects we have brought in to the program the last 3 years. I have met him a few times and he really seeemd like a nice guy, I got the impression that he was quiet and reserved (100% opposite of Karl Hobbs). Good pick up for you program, NOW PLAY US!!

I'm all in favor of getting that game going again. Now, it seems, we have a piece in place to hopefully get the gears in motion.

This was one of the things I pressed for in the Rally- getting more locals (UM, GW, AU, GMU) on the schedule.... I mean, GW, AU and GMU would all be cream puffs that would inevitably kill our RPI, but at least it wouldn't cost much to play 'em.
I also pressed for more Jez schools- Gonzaga, St. Joes, Xavier, for instance. Maybe Loyola-Chicago or Loyola- Baltimore. St. Mary's.

YB, I am going to have to ask you to slowly come back to reality......American you might have a case as a cream puff with a low RPI. However GMU is a strong school and the mention of GW as a cream puff compared to the almighty Gtown, please. What have you been watching ESPN classic 1980's basketball? Last time I checked GW and GMU were around 200 places higher on their RPI ranking. We roughly had a 50PRI most of the year, and were not even having a good/great year. GMU RPI is never extremely weak either. Please get off the high horse YB and realize this is not the 80's and playing us will actually help your horrible RPI.

I'm going to have to agreee with Smith Center on this one. I don't think it's too much to say we would have probably gotten beat soundly by GW this past year, considering they were probably better on par with Temple, and easily better than St. Johns (and possibly Miami). Oh yeah, and we were playing like crap.

Just jerking your chain Smith Center. I'd be happy to have an annual game against you guys- one year you play us in the Mighty MCI Center, one year we play you in that glorified HS gym you call the "Smith Center".
Gotta build up the rivalry here so we can get 'em playing!
I'm for playing local teams regardless of RPI. But I think playing GW, GMU, AU and Maryland, maybe UVa, is very wise policy. Cuts travel costs, builds local interest....
But SmithCtr, if you think you guys will EVER be more prominent in this area than us, you have another think coming. There's a reason for the perpetual inferiority complex....

Playing GW or GMU would likely have a net positive effect on Georgetown's RPI. Playing any major conference team helps you - especially a major conference team that'll have a .500 or better record - almost regardless of whether you win or lose to them. To get credit for playing minor conference teams, like MEAC teams, you need to play the absolute best of the best.

When you look at a non-con of AU, GW, UM, UVa, GMU, Gonzaga, St. Joe's, Loyola-Chicago, it beats the hell out of Norfolk St, Delaware St, Elon, Citadel, and whoever else Esh scheduled.

i know you have alredy been welcomed but here's another smith center. as along time gu fan since 1960 and season ticket holder since 1966 i would love for the gw-gu series to happen again. actually a rotating series or tournament with all the local div 1 schools and possibly uva. posiibly expand the mci tour that gw and maryland have been playing in. possibly start a dc area big or big six. probably asking to much. anyway welcome again.

KH has said that all of his assistants will eventually be head coaches, and I don't doubt him. Broadus was our DC connection and I assume that he shares KH's recruiting philosophy: Good kid, smart kid, athletic kid. If they don't have the skills or muscles, it's OK, we can teach them later.
Possible negative: The only local kids we actually got were Ricky Lucas and Jaaron Greene (redshirt). We were involved with a bunch of others (Josh Boone, Gerald Brown, Jeff Green) but they hit the "big time" before we couls snag them. That could be due to our name being tarnished by the TP years more than the coach's recruiting ability.
