From today's ESPN chat:
Andy (Atlanta, GA): Jeff Green is by far the best ball handler among the nation's big men. Did you simply forget about him when you made the comment about McRoberts being the best big man ballhandler you ever saw? Or have you just never seen Green play?
Andy Katz: (12:25 PM ET ) Fair statement. But Green to me is much more versatile while McRoberts has more of a traditional big man look. That's what I meant. I would put Green much higher as a passer.
That dude who sent in the question really knows his stuff....

Is it me or does Katz's answer make no sense?

Andy Katz: Got me. But I'll exclude Green from discussion of the best ball handling big man by saying he is so much a better ball handler than McRoberts that he is inherently excluded from being considered.
In other words, Josh McRoberts is the best ball-handling big man, excluding all big men who are better ball-handlers than Josh McRoberts, because if they are better than McRoberts, they must really not be big men.

Apparently if you are too good a ballhandler, you aren't a big man anymore.

Apparently if you are too good a ballhandler, you aren't a big man anymore. Also, traditionally, big men are not good passers. If you can pass, you are not a big man. Roy is actually considered a point guard by Katz b/c he can pass so well.

Roy is actually considered a point guard by Katz b/c he can pass so well. When I play pickup basketball, I typically cannot make a shot beyond five feet from the basket. Andy Katz has told me on several occasions that I am the protoypical "classic" back to the basket post player.

I turn the ball over a lot and have no discernable jump shooting skills - Andy Katz told me that I am Paulus.

You know I think Katz actually likes the Hoyas, but I think the ACC kool aid up in Bristol is so strong, they just can't think about a player from any other conference actually being talented. The sad thing is compared to some of the other guys at ESPN (Dukie V, Gottlieb), Katz actually seems to be pro-BE, at least to me.

So if McRoberts' ballhandling improves, will he cease being a big man? No, the line at which you cease to become a big man will move. In other words, being a big man is merely relative to your skills versus Josh McRoberts. Whatever Josh McRoberts is, is the Platonic ideal of a big man. This thinking allows for maximum Duke exposure. It's kind of like how any 3-point shooter with better numbers than Redick was completely ignored the last few years.

Come on dux, remember the rules of the board - you have to be overly criticial to the point of hyperventillating of anyone who ever says anything about Duke, no matter the context, especially in relation to the Hoyas. Leave your reasonable approach out of this.
I trust you'll do better next time - thanks in advance.
PS - I think Katz went to Wisconsin, so any built-in bias he has favors the Big 10.

especially in relation to the Hoyas Yeah, what's with you people, getting all energized when the Hoyas are involved? All this fanaticism is so distasteful.

Great job Andy. You called him out on that one. It is clear that he totally omited JG he doesn't know as much as you do. I think that Katz's response was the best that he could do considering an Atlanta-based lawyer made him look like a fool. Best ball handler ever? Not even the best in college right now. I suppose that Jeff was playing shooting guard when he kicked the *&@! out of Lottery Pick Williams last year. Shelden Williams is a guard too, right?
