Ahhhhhh....the scholarship table is 10 minutes out of date!!!
Without up to date information how are people on this board going to complain about the great state that the program is in right now?

There's nothing wrong with leaving Georgetown if he wants more playing time. There are plenty of quality schools around that will give him a great education and an opportunity to play ball.
I'm quite sure he doesn't want to look back on his college basketball days and think, "What if..."

"Ed, are you sure you can rely on that source?" Notice I did not say Josh was leaving; only said the Post said he was leaving. I'll leave the reliability or independence of the Post source to the reader. Realize that I was just tugging on your chain. Actually, the Post quoted Coach Thompson on the matter. That's a bit more direct than "sources said." To Jack's point, Thornton's reasons for leaving are merely speculative on all of our parts. It would be good for all of us to bear that in mind in the discussion.

I had no feelings of relief or happiness upon hearing this news. I also remember when Thornton was signed and had great hope for his Georgetown career. But he saw the writing on the wall and I think many of us are surprised this didn't happen after the end of last season, even before this flurry of verbals...
That said, I just got really, really excited because that opens the door for all-everything basketball stud Jeff Green to stay all four years. If for some reason Jeff decides to stay - I think we are preseason #1 next year unless FL and NC keep all their guys.

The timing is not really that weird. If he's already thinking transfer, he can sit out now before playing a game (and he was likely sitting anyway) and it will count as his year off.
I hope it's really PT and not a more serious issue causing him to leave.

Question: I know Josh played Kenner this summer... but had he been participating in team events recently? Did he dress for MM? The timing of this (outside of the get-to-play-next-season portion) is very odd.
Either way, good luck wherever you go, Josh. Thanks for your contributions on The Hilltop in your short time here.

I think the timing is odd too - I assume he'll finish the semester out then leave? If he transferred earlier he could already be practicing with another team.

Yeah, Josh was at MM---- are you kidding me? Had he NOT been there, everyone would have been all over that and put two and two together. I was trying to keep tabs on him, his expressions etc... because of the C Wright signing. We knew how crowded the backcourt is gonna be next year, so I wanted to see if Josh gave any hint of not taking in the whole MM atmosphere - or was he separating himself from it all, so to speak. We (kind of) knew that at best, he would have been a shooting specialist and the 4th or 5th guard THIS year, let alone next year... I agree with W Braskey though, it would be AWESOME to have both Wright AND BIG JEFF NEXT year... Hope THAT happens..

Timing is odd, but I'm sure PT is the issue. That, and the fact that he has no concept of shot selection. Some guys work out, some don't... I wish Josh the best. I'm sure there are a TON of schools who'd love to have an aggressive shooter!

Anyone know if he transfers right away to another school if this semester will count as one of the two he has to sit out before he can play next year? Or maybe he's transferring to North Georgia State Tech A&M to study pre-med.

Good luck josh - i hope everthing works out for you. Tbird - you need to make sure that his nickname follows him wherever he goes.
Definitely an interesting time for this. Less than a week into practice.

Admins, can we create a new sub-board called the wild speculation board? There we can speculate about anything and make all the wild claims that we want.

I think that as long as he transferred before the season starts, he'll be able to play starting next fall, but I'm not positive about that.

Does this give us anymore room to look into a possible 4th 2007 signing such as Biggie or does this just explain Wattad and the overall schollie situation.

I'm disappointed. Yeah a scholarship opens up but it would have been really nice to have a guy who could make threes coming off the bench. At some point this season one of our guards could get into foul trouble or be out with an injury and we'll wish he was there to throw into the action. I don't understand this sentiment (and it's one that I've seen from others on this board). Josh Thornton had not proven that he was going to be a contributor to this team, whether this year or next or beyond. Maybe it was a skill-set issue, maybe it was a "not a good fit" issue, whatever. I don't think this team is losing much, other than a guy who might chuck a few 3's in garbage time. That said, best wishes to Josh wherever he ends up. Sometimes things work out the way we want in life, and sometimes they don't. If he can move on to a place where he can get some PT and that will make him happy, so be it.

Good luck to him! I was hoping to see him making wide-open threes from the same spot while the middle was crowded.

To me there is nothing suspect about it, if he wants playing time he needs to play somewhere else. He saw all the commits and saw his future on the bench. Academics are important, but let's be honest, these guys want to play basketball first and foremost. Good luck to Thornton wherever he ends up.
