I know the ECAC lost their automatic bid....but one would think that the winner of this league would stand a very good chance of picking up an at large, no? Especially a consistently ranked top 10 team?

Georgetown will be in the tourney despite the ECAC losing their bid.
Does anyone know if the ECAC is recruiting other teams?

Why is there no Big East Men's Lacrosse?
I know there are enough schools with women's lacrosse in the Big East, I'm sure they all have men's lax too...just curious why the conference doesn't have both.

There are enough schools for the Big East to play men's lacrosse, but it comes down to the fact that Syarcuse isn't interested and won't join. Without Syracuse, the rest of the league (Georgetown, Rutgers, Notre Dame, Villanova, Providence, St. John's) would not be as highly ranked. (None of the five new entrants field lacrosse teams.)
St. John's and Loyola join the ECAC in a couple of years. Still not a substitute for the Big East, though.

Hoya lacrosse is doing just fine, automatic bid or not. So long as we play Cuse and either UMd or UVa every year, our schedule is plenty strong to get a nice seed in the tourney. An at large bid is assured this year, and should be the vast majority of other years. Urick has built an elite program - definitely one of the 6 or 7 strongest in the nation.
That said, I'm not convinced we can play with the elite group this year. It will be interesting to see how we do against Cuse and Michael Powell, who's probably the best offensive player in the nation and who gave us a ton of trouble last season.

Oh, and I think Andy Corno gets a lot of credit for this win. He dominated the face off circle as usual, and won all five fourth quarter face offs. I think we probably would have won the Navy game, had he not gotten hurt. Andy is quite possibly our MVP.

Why wouldn't Syracuse join? Not a strong enough league? If that's the case, though, wouldn't that pretty much guarantee at least a good shot (along with us) at an automatic bid? And what happened to the ECAC anyway? Was Syracuse in that before?
Sorry about the questions. I'm rather clueless as to the goings-on of the lacrosse teams, and just took in my first full game this afternoon up at Kehoe.

Syracuse seems to have a Notre Dame football thing going on- when ND football was actually a national power- and if I were them, with all of those final fours in a row, I would definately take a "It ain't broke" approach. I don't think that the hoyas merely scheduling 2 elite teams a year will get us a bid- unless we win them. I would agree we are top 6 or 7 on a perrenial basis- but would stipulate that IMO in men's lax, there may only be room for 3-4 true elite programs a year. Just not enough teams or talent to go around. I would say that GU has been knocking on the door of elite status for years, and is the most obvious candidate to make the leap next. But wins against the likes of Cuse, Marlyand, Princeton, Hopkins are still few and far in between. How many wins over those programs in the last 5 years? I am guessing one or two tops, but can't be sure there are any. To be elite, you have to beat elite programs and not just play them. I am not talking about good programs like Duke who we do reguarlyu beat, but elites like Cuse who we usually lose to and sometimes badly. A stadium, as in football, will provide a big boost.
We play on Kehoe again?

The women play on North Kehoe, and were home yesterday. My mistake in not specifying.
