From today's chat with Lunardi:
Jack (Birmingham): What is your top 10 for next year at this point? Some combo of the following teams? LSU, UF, KU, Pitt, Nova, UNC, UCLA, Memphis, OSU, Georgetown, BC, etc. Any other teams you expect to start the year real high up?
Joe Lunardi: If I had to do next year's bracket tomorrow (and I might!), I'd seed the first 10 teams this way: Carolina, Kansas, UCLA, Florida, Villanova, LSU, Texas, Duke, UConn, and Ohio State. Obviously MUCH depends on who comes back to school for many of these teams.
Not that it means ANYTHING at this point, but I figured I'd get some people riled up.

Of course you can't argue with most of those picks, and a lot depends on who stays and who goes, but I think that Nova will drop off more than most will expect. How do you lose those seniors and not drop off - at least out of the top 10? I know sumpter will be back, maybe, but still.

Right now, I can't see us top 10 with the 3 seniors departing.
No offense taken from Lunardi.

No argument from me either. Again, much like I said in a previous thread, the pre-season rankings just don't mean that much.

I'll take the bait. Lunardi's still an idiot. Dook's got no business being ahead of us. Their best player, McRoberts -- if he returns -- would not start for us.

how is duke top 10? they are losing the only 2 guys that could score on their team this year. dont tell me mcroberts and paulus are going to slide right in and become stars... and they dont have any luol deng's coming in next year either.
seems that Kansas, UCLA, Florida, UNC, Ohio State, Memphis will be the early favorites for next year.

This is one man's opinion. What does it matter? Doyell and Jim OConnel have already gone on record as considering the Hoyas to be a bigger threat next season than they were this past season. So just because Lunardi doesn't have Gtown in his projected top ten does not mean the Hoyas will be overlooked by everyone else. Heck, I like the fact that a fan from Birningham included Gtown in his question to Lunardi.

I think that'll change a great deal cause most of those teams are gonna lose guys. True...I chuckle when the preseason prognostications happen this time of year. There are easily 6-10 teams that could be turned upside down by draft declarations. It seems pointless to predict before June.

Take notes. That is all. Just take notes. Ooooooh, I like this "best served cold" approach, tejano. Very ruthless, very calculating. Right up my alley. Of course, Lunardi and Gottdweeb are on every list, every year...

Who CARES where these nitwits have us to start the season? We are undoubtably a top 20 team to start the year and no doubt we'll at least sniff the top 10 at some point, and most likely never leave the rankings. I care where we END the year... and I (like MCI) like that other fans recognize we SHOULD be top 10. With the old regime still here, we might not have been top 10 in the BIG EAST to start next year!

This doesn't concern me at all. I'm much more surprised that he omitted Memphis, which only loses one player (albeit a significant one) from a team that was a 1 seed this year.

No way dook is top 10 next year. As much as I don't think they should be, I'm pretty certain they will be. The media is going to go nuts about McRoberts being a year older and ready to dominate the ACC, how Paulus is more experienced and ready to be the next WoJo, how DeMarcus Nelson has Grant Hill-like skills or some other bullsh-t, and how the new recruits are K's best ever and he "never rebuilds, just reloads." You know its gonna happen...

Ya it seems that at this point guys like lunardi and especially dookie v don't care at all about who goes and who stays, they will always continue dish out love to teams like Duke and UCONN just because of Coach K and Calhoun....we know how good we are going to be next year, and its probably best that others don't realize it.

We won't be a Top 10 team at the start of next year - we might not even be a Top 20 team - at the beginning of next year. People must realize how much we have lost and that it will take time - hopefully not too far into the BE schedule - for the newcomers to gel with the returnees. Keys are if any of the current subs can step up big time (Tyler, PE Jr., Octo, Mark, Thorton) and how quick the new kids pick up the system to a point where they are playing it and not thinking about how to play it. Beginning of the year could be a roller coaster ride. and how qui

Joe Lunardi: If I had to do next year's bracket tomorrow (and I might!), I'd seed the first 10 teams this way:
The sad thing is, he probably will do a Bracketology sometime in the next couple of days.
The sadder thing is, we'll all read it.
The saddest thing is, at least one person is bound to overreact to it. Possibly me, who knows. . .
THE TWERPS AS A !@#$^!#$^ SEVEN SEED?!?!? WHAT ARE YOU, !#$^@% NUTS?!?!?
