Raftery was on the Fan, New York radio. He was talking about G-town and Florida, and the other matchups. He said that Jeff Green is the best player in the country that is unknown. Here is what he also said:
Raftery: you know how people use to say that the only person to stop Jordan was...
Mike and the Mad-dog: Dean Smith?
Raftery: Right. Its the same with JTIII and Jeff Green. Now that is not a knock on Jordan or Smith or JTIII or JG. Jeff Green does so much for that team and they rely on him to do so much. He is learning so much how to play basketball the right way from JTIII.
I thought that was interesting that he said that. Raftery always provides great insight.

I saw your subject head and my first reaction was, "Uh oh, Raf is hitting the sauce again..." but I think there is a lot of truth in what he said.

the guy totally loses it when he calls games and I love his enthusiasm. I'd say Green dropped the title of unknown as soon as the Hoyas beat Duke. Jeff had just a monster game and I'd say coaches all around watched that game film to see just how the Hoyas toppled the BDevils and Green played the biggest role, IMO.

As much as all the pre-game talk has been about Noah, I think all the post-game talk will be about Jeff. Tomorrow night will be his national coming out party. Look for him on a bunch of preseason All American teams next season, too.

Right now, Hibbert gets more love Nationally than Green. Green barely gets anything locally. Till this day, people still cite Rudy Gay as being great. Green is an afterthought across the country. Nobody talks about him. Raftery,Len Elmore, and the color-analyst who does the games with Don Cricki are the some of the few that actually break down the greatness of Jeff Green's play as a player. Mostly everybody else says, "well, you know he won co-rookie of the year in the Big East with Rudy Gay, so that must tell you something, yadda, yadda, yadda".

Jay Bilas has a man-crush on Jeff Green, also...
And during the Duke game, Billy Packer couldn't get over the fact that JG was "a true 6-9er" and could stand toe-to-toe with SheWill.

The interview is here: wfan.com/chrismikeaudio/They start talking about Gtown at about minute 14 in case you don't care about the other games.

We may know a lot about Jeff Green, but even my friends who are knowledgeable college basketball fans don't know too much about him. He'll have his day though. I also almost got into a fight with a colleague of mine because he called Jeff Green "soft" for getting those two dunks blocked by Sullinger. I almost went off on him, but thought better b/c we were at work.

It was the term "Raftery" that made me read this.
Bill Raftery is by far my favorite College Hoops Commentator.

Raf is the best...top notch.
Everyone was talking about Hibbert, but Green is the reaon we beat OSU. His line is INSANE for a big man. 19 point, 8 reb. and 6 assists. My god.
I hope we see step it up Jeff tonight. To beat really good teams he needs to get 15-20 IMO. He needs to take it to Noah and or Horford and get them in foul trouble with some aggressive moves to the hoop.
Green is our MVP...easily...I love Roy and his development, but we go as far as Green takes us. Simple as that.
Rudy Gay stinks...period. Let's move on from him.

Gay is a great comparison to Green. Both are from the same area, but Gay has always had more hype because he is a little longer and can maybe jump higher. However, Green was just as good as Gay his senior year in HS. In fact, I believe that Green led his team to the State Championship as a senior and Gay did not. Next, they tie for BE freshman of the year honors. Now, Gay is hyped as No. 1 overall draft pick and JG isn't even project as a NBA player, yet. C'mon. I understand that Gay has a lot potential, but I am surprised that so many people continually underestimate JG.

WOW. More than a year old. I'm curious, did you remember this thread and search for it, or did you go through all the threads back more than a year and find this one and decide it was perfect?
