This team is better if we penetrated a little more on offense. They couldn't stop us when we penetrated. Cook and Sapp can easily break a press with their dribble. The are both quick enough. The Villanova guards could not guard them one-on-one. I'm not saying chuck the Princeton Offense, but I think we should incorporate more penetration of the opposing team's defense instead of just playing ring-around the top of the key with the basketball on the perimeter almost exclusively.

Agree about the need for penetration, but we did not play "Ring around" almost exclusively. ROy had 20 points today.
We just lost to a better team in their house. Overall, our guys played well.
GO HOYAS.... finish the year strong!

When I said "ring round", I mean in terms of our perimeter game. Yes, I know. But my point is we did work the ball inside quite a bit, and we shot effectively from three when we took those. Could we still penetrate more? Yes, I agree with you on that one. but I think you are underestimating the effort our guys made to get the ball inside today... and effectively.

I thought we played well on offense but not on defense. The second half was one after another of Nova guards penetrating and no one picking them up before they shot.

I'm glad that we were able to play the ball inside against a zone. We will need that play the rest of the way. The word is out on how to play us.

I'm not talking about our inside game at all. I'm talking about on the perimeter. I know they did a great job getting ball the Roy. I'm not talking about that. Sometimes Roy ain't open. I'm saying, when we penetrated, we had great success. In the first half, Cook, (before his 2nd foul) was doing a great job negating their press with his dribble penetration. He wasn't phased by it at all. They were begging for us to put the ball on the floor because they know that is what we normally don't do. Sapp, on at least 2 occasions broke their press and had an easy contested layup. 3's are great, but if we add the dimension of get higher percentage shots through penetration in addition to getting the ball to Roy and the 3-ball, our offense would be even more potent.

The Princeton offense isn't ring around the perimeter. There's lots of penetration in the Princeton -- people shold go back and watch the last few years with Venable. Lack of penetration has nothing to do with the offense and everything to do with our players.
Anyway, we played fine today. Not great, and pretty bad down the stretch, but hardly awful. We drove when Nova overplayed, which is exactly what we should do.

we did a good job on offense and didn't do that badly on defense if they had jsut called all those push offs that they used to get open it would've been a different game.

Always important to be able to have a "something extra" or "Plan B" out there. Very encouraging to see Cook and especially Sapp using the dribble penetration, Sapp was very assertive and confident with it in the second half...just a killer contested layup on that break. Interesting to see if we can integrate that more often. I don't like to buy into sports cliches, but the one about guard play being so important come tournament time...Villanova's getting me to believe in that one after today.

Bingo, SF -- and I think we'll see a lot more penetration next year if Sapp develops like he showed he will today. Where was the penetration from these two against Marquette? That's my question.
