...that game in '00 when we beat Miami despite shooting around 30%, because we had about 1,000 offensive rebounds. After that pathetic rebounding effort last night, that Miami game would be the most beautiful thing ever.
C'mon guys, please go get the basketball.

I dont think its so simple as our guys not being hungry enough. To a degree perhaps, but I think a lot of it has to do with positioning. I feel like too often we're not in the right position, probably due to our defensive liabilities. Plus sometimes, the ball just doesn't bounce your way. I remember a play last night where the ball came to Tyler on some sort of peculiar ricochet, and he moved his hand to get it and it just bounced off his and right to the Illini for an easy one. Nothing Tyler could've really done about it. Sometimes that happens too.

its pretty simple again it was BB. tyler asserted himself on D and made a very nice layup. JG, shanti, and roy contribued in any way possible, but bb and wallace just didnt do 2 much. But in my view, it was 1 of the most dominating performances that ive seen in the past year or 2 by a big man down low on D. Roy came out with 5 blocks and they just wouldnt do anything after that while roy was in.

Coming from a high school where basketball players are idolized, I've picked upa few things on rebounds 1) Rebounds are determined by more skill than natural ability (height). Watch Ben Wallace, if you want the rebound you have to be able to box the other players out. Ben WAllace is shorter than most centers b ut he continually leads the NBA in rebounds b/c he knows how to box people out. 2) Longer shots have longer rebounds. Our players don't set up for rebounds quickly enough on 3's and long 2's. It seems that they only marginally set themselves up for a rebound when they're in the paint. But most 3's and long 2's will be rebounded outside the paint. 3) You only shoot when you see at least 1 teammate set up for a rebound. If everyone is at the 3 point line, you shouldn't shoot b/c rebounds will be highly unlikely. I think overall, what angered me most about the game was how everyone was at the 3 point line rather than close to the rim. I was trying to show my friends the intracacies of the Princeton offense, but they rarely executed it. You're a little late to the party, lahoya. That's been the complaint for two years. Ditto for rebounding.

When the Classes of about 2002-present collectively end up with high blood pressure problems in a few decades, we'll have Craiggers, Jaron Brown, Randall Hanke, etc. to blame. And I just want to point out that in this thread, a member of the Hoya Blue board correctly spelled "ricochet". That's why he's called the workhorse of Hoya Blue. (That Miami game was prob. the last one where I rooted for the Canes against GTown, was my senior year of High School and I'd been a Canes bball fan for like seven years. Oh the BET losses the Hoyas hung on Hamilton and Co. back then! You freakin' killed me guys! And then I get to GU and the 2002 BET Quarters... )

I'm one of those "Generation Burton" folks (I think), so I know all too well the trials and tribulations of the past few years

I think another problem last night in terms of rebounding was the fact that we were playing a zone defense. When players play a zone D they are more prone to forgetting to box out a man. With a man to man defense, you know to box your man out.

There are many fine explanations, but still a lot of rebounding is effort and determination. How many times would we have been much better off if Brandon or Jeff or Roy lunged for the ball and in getting it leveled an Illini player? I will take the foul any day over watching guys put back lay-ups after we have forced a miss.
I brought up the '00 game because we won for the simple reason that we fought so hard for rebounds. I mean, there were plays when we got multiple offensive boards on the same possession. We DID want it more than Miami that day. I don't think it is possible to say the same things about Thurday night's performance.
