Great run by both squads today! I was watching the numbers tick in for the men's race and when Princeton's 5th came in at 27 let out a groan so loud my neighbor texted to see if I was ok. I am holding out hope that the at-large bid plays out for the men, because this is a great team and deserves to join the women and run at Nationals.
Also, Butler was third in Great Lakes, so one of the DOOM scenarios was avoided.
Finally, Navy ran a heck of a race and it seems unfair they most likely won't get to the meet. (I originally said their 7/8 swing with Princeton would have given Navy 2nd, but I misadded how that would change the points, and it in fact would have given Georgetown 2nd 3-2 on tie-breaker. I was not a math major.)

Tulsa was 3rd in the Midwest, Iona was 4th in the Northeast, and Michigan was 6th in Great Lakes

The West Region has yet to start, so that could be interesting. Portland is ranked 5th in the region, but I think they might leap some of the four above (Stanford, UW, Oregon, CBU). I wonder what that will look like. Portland should do better at the 10K distance than maybe the middle distance teams (mainly Stanford, UW and Oregon).

The men never make it easy! Well, I can remember that one time they got 2nd at Regionals, but Spencer Brown's video about it definitely did not make it sound like it was easy

I was sorry about Portland, and totally wrong. At least my favorite Portland runner, Matt Stangio, finished 2nd (same order in the WCC conference meet). Evan Kurui, who won is a 28 year old Kenyan freshman. Matt is the son of our former head coach at middle school. Matt will go as an individual.

This might give clarity to the selection of the men for the NCAA finals, OR it might totally confuse you.
At-Large Bid #12: Georgetown Hoyas The Michigan men have the most Kolas points (eight) of any team still waiting to be selected. However, they are still not eligible to be selected.
Georgetown, Tulsa and Iona are all eligible to be selected for a spot to the NCAA XC Championships. They each have three Kolas points, the most among all eligible teams who are waiting to be selected. Indiana also has three Kolas points, but they are not yet eligible to be selected.
Since those three teams are all tied with each other in Kolas points, we must defer to a tie-breaking scenario. That, of course, would be the "head-to-head" comparison.
Georgetown, Tulsa and Iona all faced each other at the Nuttycombe Invite. There, Georgetown defeated both of those teams. Regardless of the matchup result between Tulsa and Iona, it is the Hoyas who are undefeated this season against those two teams. As such, they win the tie-breaker and are the next team selected to qualify for the NCAA XC Championships.
Georgetown gives one Kolas point to Michigan.

The closest call came at the Mid-Atlantic regional. Villanova won the race with 50 points, but the next three teams were separated by a single point: Princeton (80), Georgetown (80), and Navy (81). Princeton got the second auto spot, Georgetown grabbed an at-large bid, and Navy missed out on qualifying. But had Navy beaten either of those teams, the Midshipmen would have been pushed into the meet. And that came very close to happening – Navy’s #2 man finished just 0.4 behind Princeton’s #3. If you flip those two around, Navy finishes 3rd, Princeton finishes 4th, and both teams qualify. Under that scenario, Tulsa would have been out.
