This race, which is a qualifier for the NCAA finals, will be held this Friday for the Mid-Atlantic region at Penn State.
The top two in each of the nine regions are qualified for the final. Thirteen at large teams are then selected according to this Kolas calculation. This is pretty good website that plays around with these 13 teams: kolascalc.com
The women should make the top two teams in the region. West Virginia is ranked the top team in the region, while Georgetown is ranked 2nd. I am hoping that the Hoyas beat WVU. The men are in a little more difficult situation. They are ranked 3rd in the region with Nova and Princeton ranked 1,2. So there are various situations for the Hoyas to make the final. There are situations where the men make it and situations for them to be left behind. It seems that how well Butler does in their region affects the Hoyas' chance. If Butler finishes 5th in their region, the Hoyas don't go, that is if the Hoyas do not make the top 2.

Right now the kolas calculator is predicting the men do not make it. Well that is the reason they run the races.

Man, (and stop me if you've heard this one before) Florida State's season collapsed, and with it the Men's at-large point from Nuttycombe. Is Mike Norvell collecting two checks? (Sorry to any Noles fans)
So the He-Hoyas appear to have two likely at-large points in North Carolina (2nd in last Southeast poll) and Princeton (if the Tigers finish ahead of us at MidA). Could be close, have to see how the Hoyas do, what other teams do, and then what the computers decide.
In the words of Samuel L. Jackon's 'Ray Arnold' in Jurassic Park: "Please! God dammit, I hate this hacker crap!" ... and also maybe another Samuel L. quote from the same movie.

From The Stride Report:
At-Large Bid #12: Georgetown Hoyas Michigan is still not eligible to be selected. They have 10 Kolas points.
Among all of the teams who are eligibile to be selected, the Georgetown men have the most Kolas points (four). With no other technicalities to worry about, the Hoyas are selected to qualify for the NCAA XC Championships.
We shall see if this pans out.
Georgetown gives one Kolas point (each) to Butler and Michigan.

More from The Stride Report:
The West & Great Lakes Regions Control the Destinies of the Georgetown, Tulsa & Iona Men
Our Current Scenario
Of the three teams mentioned above, Georgetown is likely the safest in terms of national qualifying. There are a large handful of (realistic) scenarios where, as long as the Hoyas place 3rd in the Mid-Atlantic region, they will earn a spot to the national meet.
That, of course, is not to say that Georgetown is invincible. There are still multiple scenarios where the DC-based men fail to advance to the NCAA's grand finale.

Looking at the scores for the entire seven runners, the Hoyas would beat WVU by quite a lot it they scored all seven. If Melissa had run today, the Hoyas would have closer today. Expecting Melissa next week.

BTW, coming in 2nd place, the Hoyas qualified automatically for the NCAA final.

The Hoyas picked up 100 points going from10th to 6th. I don't know what happened to Lucas. He was the leader early in the season and now he is in 95th place.

At halfway (5000m) the Hoyas moved up 4th. And a big surprise as Navy is leading. The Hoyas have to come in at least 3rd to have a chance of going to the finals.

At the finish the Hoyas are tied with Princeton, but I believe Princeton gets the nod when comparing the first five, with Princeton winning 3-2.

Looks like the Hoya men finished with the same number of points (80) as Princeton but lose out on the head-to-head tiebreaker.

I wonder how this results fits into the kolas calculations. Does this consider a tie or a loss?
