Joey is on the short list of best on ball defenders I have seen here at GTown. Maybe even second place to the GOAT, Gene Smith. Also, a Joey Brown play resulted in a call from Bill Raftery that still, much like a great line from Caddyshack, gets quoted by me and my friends when appropriate, or even better, when inappropriate. As any Hoya fan from the 80's and 90's will tell you, there were few things in sport more dangerous than trying to convert a breakaway against Georgetown. Whether or not you scored the layup, or for those with a death wish, dunk, you were going to be met midair by a trailing Hoya who would send you careening into the cameramen, cheerleaders, the third row, or, if you were lucky, into a padded section of the stanchion. Sometimes it was Mark Tillmon or Dwayne Bryant, John Jacques had more than his fair share, including one I seem to recall against Terry Dehere in the BET that was especially, um, thorough. Anyway, on this random night in Big East play, I have zero recollection of anything other than the fact that Joey Brown utilized all of his considerable athletic abilities to mow some player down on a breakaway, soaring high into the Cap Centre sky to miraculously and cleanly spike the unfortunate opponent's shot off the backboard, sticking the landing as his victim hurtled helplessly towards his maker. As we exulted in appreciation of an excellent play, Bill Raftery erupted in his unmistakable gravelly shriek, "JOEY BROWN!!! DEVASTATING FROM BEHIND!!!"

I think we have a tremendous opportunity to spread the minutes out and go 10+ deep. We have a lot of athleticism and size that could maximize our ability to play tough team D. I imagine there are three or four guys who should be in that 20+ minute range most games, but I hope we don't squander the chance to have a bunch of guys getting serious minutes.

He's never been considered for a job since. This triggers one of my major pet peeves. There is no way you, I, or anyone else on this message board can possibly know this for a fact, unless one of us has had a conversation with the man himself about it. Fair. A qualifier: he's never been publicly linked to a college job since. At programs which do not exist in the parallel universe that is Georgetown, local media tend to pick up on candidates fairly quickly. Could he have have privately rebuffed offers? Absolutely, but we haven't heard anything in over seven years.

It’s the same pattern. Hoya fans want the coaching staff of any given time to get all the recruits on the board regardless of need. Then if the coaching staff fills up all the slots to full capacity, Hoya fans immediately start clamoring for a 7 or 8 man rotation after the first game of the new season. That was bad enough when the cutoff point for athletic scholarships was thirteen. Now it’s back to fifteen. There should be no reason to use all 15 schollies, especially in this era of NIL, if only roughly half of the guys will get any run during the meat of the season.

Absolutely, but we haven't heard anything in over seven years. If John Thompson III wanted another college job, the time to do it would have been 1-2 years after he was fired at Georgetown. I realize his last few years at Georgetown were rough, but even so, he was far more accomplished than a lot of other people who get jobs who have never even smelled the type of success JT3 had. I am genuinely curious whether JT3 didn't want to coach again or if he didn't have the opportunity he wanted. If we ever find out, I have a feeling it will be a long while.

And with the buyout plus whatever annuities JT2 was smart/shrewd enough to set up for the family (Nike, Michael Gaughan, etc), money’s probably not a motivating factor.

Would love to see our big men dominate inside and some solid 3-point shooting. The stories and media this week have seen an uptick in positivity I think. Love seeing the practice and team together video. Would also love to see us jump out to a fast start and keep them on their heels and playing catch up as much as possible.
Hoya Saxa -- let's go!!!!

Hoya Saxa men, first big national game of the year. Value the ball, hit the boards, intensity on defense. The rest will follow.
