That was a disappointing half of basketball against a team that is not supposed to be a world beater.

Caleb had a very nice first half in limited minutes... Basically the only good thing about the first half.

This is discouraging. ND is not a good enough team to be beating us by this much at home.
This was supposed to be a litmus test until the Syracuse and WVU games, so even if we win out until then, I won’t think anything is different.

When do we hit the panic button on Fielder? Is he still ill? Seems invisible

It seems leaving one of the best shooters in the country wide open is not a great strategy. That was some abysmal coaching. Thankfully they aren't very athletic so we can abuse them on the boards and it's not completely over.

Guard the perimeter and pound them inside with Sorber, this game is still there for the taking.

Either it's what Cooley is asking or every player is doing it on their own... Well he immediately yanked fielder when he dropped to protect the drive Your right he definitely did...but then where does the blame lie? We continue to look inept defending the 3 against any team that is not a mediocre mid major team... So is it all the players (again)... it's the system/strategy... it's Cooley bringing in the wrong players...no in-game adjustments? We are about to be awful defensively again if they don't correct this in a hurry...

GU's stat line:
16.7% ~ 3pt 26.3 % ~ fg
No Bueno. GU will have to go supernova in the 2nd half to make this a competitive game.

Defense left far too many shooters open, thought we did ok for the first 8-10 minutes but once we started our long scoring drought, defensive attention went by the wayside too. Gotta figure out a way to get easier looks either in the paint or from the 2 0r 3 guys who can actually shoot from deep cause as a team 3pt shooting is leaving A LOT to be desired. Lots to like about Sorber though, hope we get more than a year out of him.

The Hoyas have seemed tight the since game 1, have to play free and smart.

I think the game plan defensively was to key on the coach's son and Burton. Which they have. But you can't let the secondary options have wide open looks. Add in the fact that those secondary options are on fire and that 1st half was the result.
1 for 8 - 6 points combined for Burton and Shrew. Everyone else on ND 15 for 18.

Epps needs fewer minutes.
The problem with Allocco and wide open threes is the defense isn't switching on drives that pick-up a second defender (which is every fricking drive). The defense has to talk and have a leader. Caleb was exactly that defensive leader and communicator. Peavy also has been it, but the foul trouble is keeping him out of things.
The comms and switching problems are very common with teams that are young and not played together for a solid stretch of time (can take a month or two). Hoyas don't have time for that to come together and have a lot of players with good ball IQ and with good floor leader they will follow (most everybody, there are one or two players that lack that ability).
One of the crazy things is Fielder is he is talking on defense when a there are two defenders. The other players aren't listening.

Burke just went 23/28 shooting 3s during half warm ups. I am confused.

I guess when you have 13 new players, this is to be expected. I predict we win the 2nd half but will it be by enough to overcome the deficit...

I feel like the reflexive opinion whenever we are bad this year is going to be that Epps is playing too much. To be fair, he's been taking horrible shots this game, but so is everyone else, basically.

Burke just went 23/28 shooting 3s during half warm ups. I am confused. He doesn't quite have in game confidence yet with his outside shot. A couple times (at least) he was set and ready with nobody around when he got the ball and hesitated, then put the ball on the floor. He needs that in game confidence. He looked good on shots in the first games.
