Each nominee worse than the preceding one. Each like another hole in the dike, except that’s not water on the other side. In three short months we’re going to be awash in this.
Seriously, Pete Square Jaw for Defense? Tulsi Gabbard? And then Matt Gaetz? A pedophile heading up Justice? A bookend for the pedophile in the Oval Office?

I cannot fathom how people who claimed they want financial security and safety in a troubling geopolitical environment thought it was good idea to vote for a guy who offered only chaos. Not only did he offer it, he assured it in almost every speech he made. This country deserves everything it gets the next four years for giving power to an unmitigated disaster like Trump. People were warned that he was a chaos agent, and his nominations of sideshow circus freaks are proof positive.

Excerpts from the Free Press on Gaetz (paywalled): “The Gaetz pick felt like the cabinet-appointment equivalent of ****posting. “I’m already hearing from a wide number of solid and capable conservatives great consternation,” said one top conservative legal figure. “My phone is blowing up,” said a leading Republican lawyer. “I can’t believe the Senate would confirm him.” “Gaetz will have to plead the Fifth at his confirmation, which would be a first,” said a veteran Republican strategist. Rubio, Gabbard, and Gaetz. . . Oh My!

Yeah, no. Matt Murphy is delulu here. The DNC deserves boatloads of blame. Promising to put a Republican in the Cabinet. Refusing to allow people against genocide to speak at the convention. Refusing to speak more about climate denial and Trump soliciting the oilmen. Fracking, for god’s sake. Dick fecking Cheney. It’s as if the DNC looked back at the Bush 2 years and said now that wasn’t so bad, was it? And then there was the failure to seriously address the economy and talk about real measures to lessen inequality and rein in the oligarchs. Not one word about a wealth tax, not really, because no one in the DNC has the stones to go there. They’re out of touch. It’s like that photo of Biden yesterday with Trump sitting next to him, smiling idiotically as if everything is AOK. Corn Pop isn’t really that big of a bully, that smile says. I realize I’m kicking the DNC when it’s down, but Murphy’s comment is infuriating. We deserve better than Republican Lite.

Rubio, Gabbard, and Gaetz. . . Oh My!The confirmation votes will be public. Elected GOP officials do not push back against Trump in public. If this gets to a vote, odds are very good he'll get confirmed. Or, as a way to duck being on the record voting for or against him (both options bring a problem), this will be the excuse they need to go forward with the recess appointments and postpone an actual confirmation vote for an actual real candidate a couple years. By then, Trump's people will have done the damage he's asking for and he probably won't care what comes next.

I will never understand why someone who has $300B would care at all about taxes. Isn't the whole point of being absurdly rich that you don't care about any costs every again?
