As a Yankee fan, I'm glad that they won the division and got home field advantage due to Cleveland falling apart. I have next to no faith that they'll go very far as their bullpen is very suspect and, in a limited series, opponents will pitch around their two offensive threats. Coupled with Judge's penchant for disappearing in the playoffs. I am interested, however, in watching the Braves/Mets double-header tomorrow. Brutal situation they've been put in.

I'm a Mets fan. I'm looking forward to them figuring out a way to screw things up tomorrow in Atlanta, just like the previous times where all they had to do was win a game against the Braves and they were in.
I just assume I'm doing penance for sins in a past life.

I'm a bit bullish on the Yankees, but the team is definitely flawed. I was listening to a podcast this morning that pointed out that most of the presumed starters are either bad defenders (Torres, Soto) or are actually playing out of position (Dominguez, Judge, Chisholm, Cabrera if he gets the nod at first). In a short series, that might not matter at all. Or it could swing the result with just one or two plays.

Go figure Mets win wild Game 1, Braves get doubleheader split as both make playoffs www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2024/09/30/mets-braves-doubleheader/

So the Mets and Braves are both in, and the Snakes are out. I didn't see either game at all, but that first one will have to go down as an instant classic.
I'm rooting for the Dodgers, of course, but I really like the Padres' chances. Kiss of death, no doubt.

As a skeptical Yankees fan, I'm encouraged (selfishly) about how the playoffs have gone so far. Houston and Baltimore out right away betters the Yankees' chances. And, the Mets taking a game they had every right to lose from the Phillies only continues that streak of good luck for my team. The more badly flawed teams that can beat better teams in short series, the more fun the later rounds get. Go Mets! Go Tigers!

When I was growing up in the '50's, we didn't have to make excuses for my Yankee team, since they always won . The best ever world series game was in 1956 when Don Larsen pitched his perfect game and Mickey Mantle hitting a home run to provide the offense in that game. And, oh yes, I was in Yankee Stadium that day.

True, but the Yanks also won a game where Cole didn’t have it, Judge did nothing, and Volpe of all people made a big error. That sounds like the formula for a sure loss.

The National League is winning the world series this year.
I used to hate the Yankees because the White Sox always finished second to them, but they have now fallen behind the Cheatros in my pantheon of hate.

Juan Soto is going to be a very, very rich man. Delusional Nats fans envision him returning to DC. I'm a Nats fan but not delusional. The current owners (the Lerners) won't pony up big bucks. And David Rubinstein who had an interest in buying the Nats (with Leonsis as part of ownership group) bought the Orioles instead.

Depends on whether or not what's left of the Dodgers' pitching staff can grind out another 4 games. Their pitching is highly suspect due to all of their injuries. If they were fully healthy, I would certainly agree that it should be a walk for the Dodgers. As it stands, I expect a competitive series.

When I wrote that, I was certain that the Padres, Phillies or Mets would win the NL. While I am rooting for the Dodgers, I thought there was no way that a team with 2 1/2 starters (I consider Buehler half a starter, because he only had two good starts during the regular season) could win the NL. So no, the Dodgers are the furthest thing from a lock. We'll see if they can somehow survive another series.

The Mets got hot at the right time but they're not very good. And, with the way the Phillies played after the AS break, they aren't scary. Padres, however, should've dispatched the Dodgers.

Mostly accurate but from June 1 forward, the Mets had the best record in baseball. If by hot at the right time you mean the last 4 months you are spot on. This Mets “hot late” thing is mostly a canard.
