Took a while to find a YouTube live stream to watch it, but a compelling and exciting match.

A crowd of 82,300 at Croke Park in Dublin, which was on the touring schedule at John Carroll this past spring. It's not accessible by rail or bus and there's no parking, so this must be a sight when so many fans march up the streets from downtown en route to the stadium.
There are literally thousands of teams in GAA, all amateur and based by town, city, and county. In the tour they took us to a exclusive bar under the stadium where the two finals teams will meet and share a few drinks following the match.

What the heck is hurling, in addition to something my dog does in the car?

What the heck is hurling, in addition to something my dog does in the car? Hurling is a game played nearly exclusively in Ireland with a ball and a flat stick - think of it as a short lacrosse stick without the netting. (A related game grew up in Scotland called shinty.) Teams advance down the field. If the ball is hit into the goal, three points. Above the goal but between the posts, one point. There are common appearances between hurling and women's field hockey but while field hockey is primarily a ground game, a hurling ball (about the size of a tennis ball) can be hit upward by the stick, passed or kicked down the field, and tackling is allowed.
